I loved the game before the giant gap in releases. I really enjoyed it, but fuck that last "update". Waited like two years for that shit to come out to just be let down

That tends to happen to a lot of games, not just these, but particularly these. They get a few years into development, then developers lose passion/interest and they either get abandoned or the fall off.

Yes,1 man projects have that issue where the project, if not completed in a couple years usually dies slowly and unfinished. Mods usually can't really fix that honestly, it's a patch to get a bit more from the original source, but they have the same issue and usually are not complete....
