Man this is a blast from the past.
Game never got finished, teased with some characters and then the dev wandered off into the sunset.
All well.
Might download to play again, but yeah, game will never be finished.
Not a blaast from the past. Happening all the time. You don't have to search for long, to find similar games, that ar in danger of being abandoned.
Secrets of the family and Our Island are among them.

Well, it is a shame if this one is really abandoned. But with so many other stories, they drag on for years without ending. 'and suddenly, you are hanging there waitin.....
yeah I'd say if it doesn't end after 5 years it's prob gonna end up abandoned for one reason or another (dev died, got bored with it, burned out, etc) with no ending at all. That seems to be the long-term pattern anyway. After 5 years it's starts showing it's age anyway and should be put to bed with a proper ending at least (no, don't rework it before finishing it with new gen renders, just make a new AVN with a new story after ending the old one).

Our Island was just on hold due to Westygate and will be back in dev when The Fosters 2 is done (prob 2-3 more updates). In fact I think 13 mentioned he's already writing the next ch for it and will be out around this fall, with OI his main project with some other one he did a poll for awhile back getting less priority in between OI releases.

Let's hope this is the case, but it is strange that a developer starts a "probe for new games" while he has a good game that is a long way from being finished.

Exactly. Maybe some devs are overambitious, or they don't have a clear view of the story from the beginning to the end. I have seen examples that were promising, but then the dev. introduced new caracters, twisted the plot, and in the end, got lost with no way out.

Not all games need to have an end. Midlife Crisus always felt more like a soap that could keep going indefinitely rather than something that was going towards a clear ending.

Quite a few devs do 2 AVNs at a time to prevent burnout. Those that don't tend to get tired of them and abandoned them within 1-2 years or end up slapping an awkward rushed ending on them (like happened with Rational Chaos after a bit over a year). The poll was for ideas for his 2nd AVN since he knew TF2 was coming to an end within the next 4-6 months. He did hint at TF3 at some point but that's prob some time off (prob after OI is completed).

Maybe so, but then the dev. should declare it as such.
I have to say, that I like the clear goal of the game Black & White by @LiriusArt
Two progress bars, one that shows the percentage of the total, and one that shows how the progress is doing on the next update.

yeah Such a Sharp Pain is about half done already (around 20 updates total), but I guess it has been over 2 years at this point.

I was looking forward to the nuclear family orgy with the MC, Sandra, Christine and Amanda all together. And possibly, all pregnant.

You and me both! (Except I'd delete the word "possibly"). But that still wouldn't have been the natural ending. Hailey is obviously desperate to get pregnant, too, and that's not going to go well with our sister, so we've got the makeup sex, the sibling for Hailey and Hailey's baby. We need to demonstrate to our male employee that his little sister is almost grown up by sharing her with him, and so much more...

So fundamentally, I don't just want Nefastus back for one last update providing a conclusion, I want him back for good.

Ohh, yes. Just like Parental love! An orgy in the end, with all pregnant

Yeah, I know one of them. The name's George Martin

He's not a game dev (thank dog) but point taken. He's been writing A Song of Ice and Fire for TWENTY-EIGHT FUCKING YEARS (A Game of Thrones came out in 1996) and is nowhere close to finishing it, meanwhile he's 75 years old and could keel over at any moment with the series unfinished like Robert Jordan did, only without Brandon Sanderson on tap to finish it up. :cautious:

Not that I could see Sanderson, a practicing Mormon (though a less prudish one than Orson Scott Card) picking up such a sex- and depravity-laden series. Wheel of Time was pretty PG.

Fans need to wake up as he's never finishing the series and has admitted it will die with him.

As he wont allow another author to finish it after he passes like Jordan and Herbert's family did.

Anyway after the failed season eight he has no desire to finish the next book. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah and considering he's already said he's not letting someone else finish them let's hope he lives to 90 or something, since he has like 2 books and 3000 pages to go. Though he looks rather overweight so my hopes/expectations are not high that he even makes it to 80.

I'm sure he hasn't been writing it at least for the last 5 or more years and the reason - he wrote himself into the corner and doesn't know what to do with all those numerous characters and plot twists. But enough with off topic. A joke is a joke.

How long did it take Lev Tolstoj to write War and Peace?

6 years, but that included like 7 reworks irrc. First version took less than a single year ( I guess the guy never slept and being drunk on vodka was a close enough approximation of sleep).

But he finished the story in the end.
We have game devs. that have been at it almost as long, and I assume they are not drunk on Vodka, but they are not even close to the end yet.
