A new cleanup update has been posted covering the recent Vault rework, rank changes, policy cleanup, and theme polish.
The goal is to make LC cleaner, easier to understand, and safer for the site going forward.

I think in general there are some tags that we don't really need. These are the kinds of things that you'lll find in so many games that it would be weird to not see it on the list. Penetration? Come on, how often is that not a thing?
That said, beyond the generalities that you'd almost always expect, I do think tags specifying what you could encounter in that game is helpful, and I think more tags are better than less.
Lots of tags is nice when it reflects that there are lots of options in otherwise simple scenes and stories. When it reflects that there are a billion 2-second scenes with one tag each, it feels convoluted, and disappointing as the 2-3 tags you really care about barely occur.
If the content is there, the tag belongs. But if the question is asking about games with lots of different content vs games with a larger amount of of fewer flavors, then less is more.
I think is better to have just a few well crafted ideas and a good gameplay. The expression "wide as an ocean deep as a puddle" comes to mind when I see a game with too many tags.

Games that just started or are "slow burn" might not have penetrative tags. I often use whether or not the game has "vaginal sex" tagged yet as a litmus test for whether it's got enough content to try.
I don't really care about the number of tags a game has, I just scan for ones I'm personally interested in or don't want. But if the game has 20 different forms of basically vanilla tags or omits those it doesn't really matter to me.
for me the amount is not that important. is how the tags are used. some games, are more complex and will use a lot more tags, as long as the tag are relevant for the content of the game, I don't see a problem with the amount.
Lots of tags is good but I feel like tagging systems should be divided into major and minor. You should put the main tags in the description of the story so people can get a feel for what you are focusing on most.
Man I casted my vote wrong. For a second I thought it was about having enough specific tags to decribe a game, but it is about how much variety of content a game can have.
In that case, I believe that there is a middle ground everytime. I mean, too little and the game will have a small player base and likely less multiple playthroughs. Too much and the game will be too saturated to cater to any player taste.
Imagine this, a harem game with a strong focus in the story can be good if each character doesn't need too long to conquer. But a massive harem, where each possible partner have a really deep storyline, worth hundreds of hours with a lot of content (porn), a wide variety of 'tags' (kinks and tropes) and a satisfying gameplay is just a pipe dream.
In the case one tries to make this come true, a few things are likely to happen:
players will stop at the middle of the game without ever seeing everything, possibly never seeing the tags he wants the most
developers will come and go, restarting and stoping development because reasons
the storyline can become so convoluted that you never know what to expect from a given character
most of the characters start to resemble one another with different clothes and hair

Anyway, moderation is key.

I like your idea. Some places I've seem something on the lines:
Anal
Anal Penetration
Anal Toys
Anal Fingering
Anal Licking
Anal (I forgot the word they use when you just put your D in between the bums - hot dog?)
Still, moderation is key. Too much and it start to be confusing.
True. I like the idea of a toggleable color sytem imo. Like red tag for major amounts, green tag for present amounts, and blue tag for very minor amounts.

Tags need be restricted only relationed with MC, I remember playing a game with incest tag, after finish I didn't remember any fetish, question on the game thread there is the ANSWER incest was because a short scene on a single path a random character tell she had sex with her cousin. So just put tag relationed toward mc
Many tag are good as long as they are standardized and searchable. VNDB has a great tag system that makes it easy to find and search for what you want.
