Once in a lifetime is great! Haven't gone back to leap of faith in ages, but will try it out again

Totally agreed -- I can't recommend Leap of Faith enough if you care about a compelling story; it actually managed to bring a tear to my eye.

I am going to recommend only relatively long visual novels implemented in Ren'Py. Most do not use sandbox mechanics, and the ones that do are not too frustrating. They are all at least of relatively high quality. Eternum, Cosy Cafe and Pale Carnations, are of absolutely outstanding quality.

Story-focused VNs; explicit scenes exist, but are incidental and serve the story:

• Once in a Lifetime (completed) and Eternum (ongoing) are two adventure stories with great humor by the same author
• My Bully is my Lover (main branch is completed)
• Lust Academy (ongoing series; basically Harry Potter)
• A House in the Rift (ongoing)
• Ripples (ongoing; surreal thriller)

Porn-focused VNs; plot exists but serves the explicit scenes:

• Solvalley School (completed; humorous with incest as a running gag)
• Sisterly Lust (completed; incest-focused)

Balanced VNs; plot and porn are about equally important:

• Cosy Cafe (ongoing; romantic harem)
• Crimson High (ongoing; huge monstergirl harem)
• Waifu Academy (ongoing with slow progress; over the top in all respects)
• Ecchi Sensei (completed series of VNs; humorous; focus on harem and incest)
• Pale Carnations (ongoing; serious thriller involving BDSM with questionable consent; plenty of meaningful branching)
• Maids and Maidens (ongoing; started as pure harem-building, now sex cult investigation)
