Incorporate voices into games

In general i don't think it is good. there are some good ones out there like snow daze

It's a waste even with voice actors. Takes up too much space, and most people mute and/or click before they're done talking.
Yeah, is why I think you need to have it as an AI plugin, not part of the main game

I love it, voice actor can really bring a character to life. Too expensive unfortunately.

AI is not quite there yet, metallic sound / micro stutter and emotion issues. Good enough AI is probably just around the corner.

voice acting in games would be awesome! especially in "hotter" scenes

not sure if i would like that - AI is still clunky, so most of amateur VA, professional VA usually cost some serious $ and most of the time i set games volume to 0 so IMO bad idea or i am not a target this type of solution

I can read faster than listen to a dialogue, so I would end up skipping the VA anyways. As many of you mention, it adds cost, complexity for little payoff.
It could be helpful for people with sight problems, but I don't think they are the target audience anyways.

I can understand some small games with AI voice-lines, but it is definitely a waste of time and resources for big projects. Though i can see it happen in big games but right before scenes so you have smoother transition

I only need voices in games when i can kill guys there.
But impersonal sex sounds are only annoying...and i dont waste my time with english drivel.

At this point, machine voicing.... I'll tell you, I wish it wasn't there at all. It's too early to talk about the prospects of using AI at the moment. Developers can hardly afford to hire real professionals/actors to voice their projects (it's quite expensive). I think that for at least two or three years the current situation will remain.

I prefer to turn off any voices in these games. I think ai will make them worse

I'm against it completely.
First I tend to turn off sound to begin with as I have generally something else I prefer going at the same time.
Next it would needlessly bloat the game. Think about how much dialogue there are in these games. You would be making a 500mb game into 2gb.

Even with actual hired voice actors it often sounds off putting, it's not always a benefit, often it throws me off.
Now the discussion of using AI makes things even worse. Too often people thing just give the prompt and presto you get what you want and just go ahead and use it.
Too often the AI makes mistakes and can ruin a story as even how a name is said can change unexpectedly or even which use of the word is correct. Bow is a good example. Most AI I've heard default to saying it like the bow of a ship or to bow down meanwhile the context is of a bow and arrow.

What do you think about incorporating voices into games? that the dialogues are spoken. I think that with the advancement of AI, voice actors will not be necessary for this.
Tbh - I always have the games on mute. To paranoid that my neighbors could hear me

I'd be interested in having voiced characters in some slower longer scope games but the lack of them has been fine too.

If anyone really wants voice, I think it would better just creating voiced cutscenes rather than trying to do the entire game.

Well, if a game was well funded, had professional voice actors, and was fully animated then I would be interested. I doubt we'll ever see a porn game with that level of funding behind it though.

As for AI, I personally don't think it should be anywhere near the word 'Art' in a sentence. So if the voices were AI I would turn it down immediately.

AI voices now can sound exactly like a SPECIFIC person. Would sound way better than the robotic sort.

Sure, AI generated voices can convincingly sound like a "specific person" but can it give nuanced performances the way an actor can? A human actor can change the way they say a word and the scene can take on a different meaning or have multiple meanings simultaneously. I just don't think generative AI can ever do that the way a human can... although the general AI we see in science fiction probably could but it's still only theoretical and probably impossible. A future where AI takes the place of artists like musicians, animators, and actors is a bleak one to me. I could go on about my problems with AI, but I don't feel like writing a novel at the moment. If AI voices in art is satisfactory to you, then that's cool too. Me, personally... I don't want to consume content, I want art that will make me feel something.

But then, the only places that could afford voice actors are AAA studios, and they don't do AVNs. Maybe the top earners could hire regular people to do it, but as for everyone else if they want voices...

As long as it is done well, and also with the possibility of turning it off, i'm positive.

Some people have said they have seen (heard?) it done well in a few instances and "snow daze" was mentioned.

Id love to try and find out if I like voice or not, so does anyone have any examples of voice done right?

I've watched a few 3d videos where a bit of moaning was synced well to the action but never in a game.
