Nope, a few months before I was supposed to do my service the mandatory service was called off.
Was sort of exited about it but, the second it was no longer mandatory, I had a lot of other more interesting shit to do.

Served in the infantry, air assault & amphibious ops unit. Was back in the 2009 iirc. My dad served in the same unit so i was happy i passed the selection. Not happy when i was serving in the unit though. So i eventually quit. But now i kinda regret leaving as civilian work & life feels way more shitty.

1 year as it is mandatory here. Discharged as communications sergeant.

Navy 93-97. In bootcamp we learned how to do Broadway dancing on the helo deck and how to cuddle with another man in case of an emergency.

No service for me, but I wish I would have cause my friend that did gets mucho bennies.

I think its interesting when people say "thanks for ur service" - without any context. I feel like we dont really do that towards any other fields of work. I mean if ur a firefighter or paramedic i would be hard pressed to find any context where i wouldnt praise u for ur work - but if u sign up to essentially shoot at other people, i would think we would want very specific context before celebrating that. maybe im wrong or missing the point - i dont know - just a thought. Not trying to diminish anyones service and i think its very honorable to defend ur country

Me no but I know people do it

never was a big fan of military, but since it was mandatory and lots of male family members joined at some point, I wanted to join the back then pretty newly founded cyber defense unit. In case I would not meet the criteria, I would have loved to do at least some public service instead (working at hospitals, elderly care etc.). Turns out they didn't allowed me to do any of it because I take adhd medication and therefore (in their eyes) I am so useless, that I would not even be allowed to wash the back of some old complaining about the water temperature, although we both would have known it's just right

Never served, but the bennies sure look good now a days.

I served 8 Years in the US Army Infantry. 4 years Active and 4 Years NG/Reserves. Also did a combat tour to Afghanistan
