I am an avid fan of VNs just because of a certain few that felt like striking gold and really sucking me into the story. More in the past than recently... so I figured I would ask here. At what point do you give in to the Skip Unseen Text option and just skim to the naughty bits? What was the point that made you lose interest? Let me know.

If a VN failed to enthrall me in the first 30-40 minutes of playthrough, I delete it without regret, without searching for “hot” scenes. Such was the fate of Grandma's House.
Sometimes the problem is the graphics. In Summertime Saga, all the characters look the same, plus (this is another reason - certain fetishes) I don't care much about pregnancy. And politics and porn are not compatible concepts.
To summarize - the main pitfalls for me are: weak plot, subjective dislike of graphics and certain tags, just not always they are present in the description of the game.
Now, however, I very rarely encounter such things, I carefully read reviews of the game (on another site, there are a lot of them).

I don't really give them a specific amount of time. I will try to let them build up, but I will drop them if I'm not interested or engaged after a while. I might skim for a while, but if I am no longer interested in the story I don't bother sticking around for the rest. At that point other material is easier and better.

Yeah, no set time frame. Usually I'll at least play to the end of the first installment I download. If I don't get that far it's probably because the game is just really terrible. E.G. I recently tried Alternate Worlds and gave up by like the third choice because it has some of the most execrable dialogue I've seen in my life.

For me, usually it either occurs near the first 20 minutes of a VN and I drop it or after I completed a couple of the character routes. For VN where I just want to get off though, I turn that skip unread immediately.

I think 30 mins is usually a good marker if you are interested or not. There are a lot of VNs out there so if they can't catch you in the first 30 mins or so there is probably another option you would be more interested in and more worth your time

I don't even skip to the sex if a novel loses my interest. i give it about 30 mins to capture me.

40 minutes. If the writing is good I'll keep going even if I haven't hit a scene, but I'm not going to skip unseen text because if I just wanted to look at porn stills/animations I could do that. I came to the vn for a story and connection to characters

For me it depends on the story, if the writing is keeping my attention there is no time limit.

I play mostly complete games and I'll give it 3 to 4 hours of game play, then I might check the gallery to see if there is anything worth sticking with it for.

The first thing that gets my attention in a VN are the visuals, then the tags, I'm not looking for a great story while "playing" these games.

If it is a game focused on the lewds I might skip a lot. And repeat some ;)

If it is a story centered game I will usually hang in unless the writing is really bad. No time measure on that. Just when my patience is done.

I have also given up on a couple games that went places I really do not like .. but that is more about taste and preference.

if I'm being very kind an hour and a half
but only if it shows promise

Sometimes I can tell within a few minutes. It's nothing consistent - might be the graphics, the conversation style, where I think the storyline might be heading.
I'll delete it, but there are times when there's another update and I get sucked in again. I'll probably play it then realise why I deleted it in the first place!!

I usually give about 30-45 minutes, i like build ups so I'm okay with some slowness but it had to be interesting.
