How important is an engaging storyline to you?

Personally, I really like to have a storyline to engage with. I know some people will say that as long as the art is good, the story doesn't matter. To me, though, a solid storyline and characters can excuse a lot in the art style, whereas impressive art will fall flat if there isn't a certain level of believability to the storyline. There can be exceptions to this rule, but I think it's about immersion.

It matters a lot to me... Without it u don't feel connected to the characters... You're not immersed in to that fantasy world... So won't be able to enjoy it to the fullest.

Hmmmm if we're comparing like Story vs Art/Render. I'd have to go with the story. But like unless the scenes were tremendously not drawn/rendered well, then story is the least of my concern at that point. Other than that, the story gotta really captivate me.

I think story line is the most important. If written well a 2D game can feel like a vr experience.
I agree. It's always nice if the art is gorgeous.

Oh, and it's really important that the art supports the storyline. I've seen some games where the storyline is at least reasonably competently done, and the art is good enough, but it doesn't seem to fit. I've had fun with some "real porn imagery" games, but the writing has to make the clips and images make sense in context; if a scene is set up to happen in the kitchen and then suddenly the porn actors are banging in a bed, it sort of jolts you out of it... but the hair styles changing or stuff like that (because the next clip used is from a different movie) doesn't matter that much.

Some play for the intrigue, the well-developed characters, the suspense, being drawn into a VN or game, compelled to keep playing just to find out what happens next. Others play for visual stimulation, fascinating art that shows you things you ordinarily would seldom or never see. A well-made adult game knits those media together seamlessly, creating a complete package that takes the player on an escapist journey to parts unknown where angels fear to tread. But if you only had access to games with great art but uninteresting stories or great stories but crappy artwork, which would you prefer? What first attracted you to these games, and why do you continue playing them hour after hour? Which is more important, the story or the art?

As for me, I'm more visually oriented. I appreciate a well-crafted story, but I play these games primarily to enjoy the artwork.
Doesn't matter that much. I've seen games with dumbest storylines but they work cuz they're hot at the end of the day

A game needs either really good gameplay or good writing to catch me (bonus points for both, of course; but out of the two, the writing is more important). The story itself doesn't need to be amazing and creative, good writing can do much with little.

But dry, boring writing can't be saved for me, not by the greatest renders, the best UI or sound design... maybe by really, really good gameplay.

The story is most important for me. Lewd scenes don´t make fun, without embedded in a story. If I would like it the other way, I would not play, I would watch porn.

Depends on the game for me, if its sandbox gameplay should come first, if its purely VN, Strong dialogue and character writing is important, porn is always secondary

Story is one of the foundations of a playable AVN for me. I have seen so many cute LIs that never get a chance to know b/c the story is a snoozefest.

Porn first, story required but secondary. All VN games or similar benefit from a good story, that much is true. Porn VN games in particular, however, need both porn and story. Both ought to be good, neither ought to be neglected. For me, I hold the "skip" button or download a gallery mod frequently, but not always. Some stories out there are pretty good, and knowing the characters sometimes helps with the payoff. However, dick in hand, I'm not trying to read all that shit. People need to know the difference between story and scenes, also. Scenes often have text and dialogue as well, sometimes they even have context. That's what I'm largely interested in, the pornographic visuals with the proper context. I don't need the whole story, just enough to know who's who and what's what.

For non-VN style porn games, good gameplay mechanics and good porn are similarly required. It's a lot to ask for, but those that do it well earn the adoration of many.

For me a game with the best graphics and visual design can be ruined by a bad storyline

Very. It doesn't need to be award winning, but it has to be enough to keep me interested. I could just go watch some random video on one of a dozen sites if I just wanted porn. I play porn games for the story and gameplay, and if either is lacking then I just won't bother.

If the gameplay isn't good or if the choices don't really matter then the only thing keeping my interest is the story and if that isn't good then I just don't play and uninstall.

This also goes for normal games too. (like hellblade gameplay isn't very good but the story is why I kept playing)

If the porn is outstanding, I don't need a story. But given a choice, I would prefer slightly lower rendering quality and a better story rather than the other way round.

For me Story comes first when ever i play a game If i can't connect to the world I'm in or the game doesn't catch my curiosity/interest it all becomes so bland and tasteless. To some extent I also feel this way about characters in games as well.

A good storyline is very important, it helps immersion, a lot of devs should look into how writers tell their stories, the quality of games would improve a lot

The story is what makes each one interesting and unique. Without a good story then it's just skipping until you get the next scene. I want the story to draw me in and entertain me.

But others need to realize they're not William Fucking Shakespeare and people aren't downloading it to read a fucking novel between each sex scene...
