Very important for VN's, for other types mechanics are more important to keep engaged

Story comes first 100%, if it's a good enough story I'm definitely down for a pure text based game.

well i dont mind the storyline that much, i just go for the hot stuff, but always will be a good thing to have

absolutely love a good story, makes the whole experience 10x better

Story. Feels like it keeps me enganged more if I care about characters or what's happening

I’m used to games always having some abysmal story, but when it’s actually engaging it does bump up the enjoyment of a game.

With the amount of games I've played, a good story is honestly one of the best things you could give me at this point.

For me it has to have a Story or Background regardless if its a quick game, text based, VN, or even comic. but it also can't be glichy or to poor of quality you can't tell whats parts are what (ex I have played a game I mistook a head for a foot)

I've played through 2 builds of Tomboy Supremacy; I know what's going on with Cosmo, but I have no idea what the story is.
For me, an RPG or any actual game needs some kind of story. It doesn't need to be Steel Magnolias or The Crying game, From Dusk til Dawn is fine.
For "playable" VNs, I don't care that much. If I pass by some interesting frames, I'll roll back and read up on the immediate situation, but not much more.

AVNs NEED, they absolutely require, a good story. Sure you can spam click to get to the good stuff, but thats not why you're playing a VN is it? You want to be engaged and experience a story. If you want just straight up sex, you can find that online.

It's why games like Eternum are so peak, because it has a robust story and characters that are engaging

Hate to be boring, but without a good storyline, the rest is just pointless erotic window-dressing. The sex is only enjoyable when directly linked to a well-crafted narrative.

100% necessary for it to me memorable at all. otherwise its just a huge time sink to basically watch shitty porn

Medium.

The story cannot be terrible then its disconnecting but bad story can be overcome by good game

Some play for the intrigue, the well-developed characters, the suspense, being drawn into a VN or game, compelled to keep playing just to find out what happens next. Others play for visual stimulation, fascinating art that shows you things you ordinarily would seldom or never see. A well-made adult game knits those media together seamlessly, creating a complete package that takes the player on an escapist journey to parts unknown where angels fear to tread. But if you only had access to games with great art but uninteresting stories or great stories but crappy artwork, which would you prefer? What first attracted you to these games, and why do you continue playing them hour after hour? Which is more important, the story or the art?

As for me, I'm more visually oriented. I appreciate a well-crafted story, but I play these games primarily to enjoy the artwork.
story. its a game for a reason, I want to be interested first.

Depends on the game. Some games I just skip everything. Some games I care more for the story. Eternum is good example of the latter

I love a good story, but sometimes a sandbox game with tons of simulation mechanics hits as much. It really depends on the game.

I don't care how the game look like a hand drawn,Koi, or even others. But A good/intriguing Story is a must for me. Otherwise I'll just open the gallery and then uninstall the game.

I can play some of these just for the story to be honest, which sounds bad often but a few have good enough stories that if it wasn't porn I'd still read them. Not a lot get to that quality of course. A few of my favorite games didn't even have art, or only recently via modding have art for scenes such as CoC and Liliths Thrones, however the story on those two isn't insane, it is the bulwark of why I play them half the time.
