I think its the act of breaking a taboo or a social norm and getting something we normally can't obtain, that makes it so alluring. Like a teen trying to buy beer.

I love incest (in games), of course part of it is the taboo aspect, but I really love the story telling that can be done with the topic. I've said it before somewhere else, but there is so much room for deep, engaging, and emotional story telling with it. The idea of your character having known this person for their whole life (or the vast majority of it, if it's a sibling instead of a parent), growing, learning, and turning into who they are because of the influence of the other, only to realize their feelings have become something much greater than what society accepts. The drama of it is so compelling, it has so many ways to be both heartbreaking, and heartwarming at times. Yeah, the taboo element helps a lot too, but its the story potential that does it for me.

To be honest, I don't care about this fetish. The main thing is decided by the plot and gameplay, the rest is in the third and fourth roles. The only time I deliberately put up an incest patch was Straitened Times, without it the plot turned into something incredibly delusional.
By the way, if incest leaves me completely indifferent, then pregnancy, especially in games with incest, causes me the strongest rejection. As well as the presence of LGBT relationships in such games.

In theory step-daughter is fine, but the key component is the father and the daughter have to actually act like father and daugher. I would say the presence of a mother to sneak around/pretend to be a family with is more important. If the game doesn't act like the family relations you are breaking are important, then the player doesn't feel like those family relations are important.

If the game is not about incest then a fuckable step character is fine. Partially it's intent and implementation. of which of course an audience cannot be a perfect judge.

There is a sort of general principle that I'm having a little trouble clearly explaining. Impositions that try to make the fetish more palatable more than spoil it.

You get to play two games both made on renpy (same art style):

One where there you get to play the divorced Dad with multiple daughters with mods that you have no connection to. The girls don't even look the same. The mother is nonexistent, the sex is meaningless and random throughout the story.

One where you play the step Dad that works his way into seducing his stepdaughter behind his wifes back. Finally the sex happens, where you break all bonds and creampie her and wreck all the consequences.

The second one is clearly hotter, because you're actually playing family. The games where the mom is cool with it or is nonexistent just doesn't play that angle at all.

IDK about the forbidden aspect. I've wanted to fuck my older sister ever since I was 13 and she was 25. So you could say I've always been into incest, just never got the luck to actually do it.
