Help Upgrade LewdCorner's Server
Better hardware, fewer slowdowns, and more room to grow.

Hey everyone,

Some of you have probably noticed that LewdCorner can feel fast one minute and sluggish the next. I've been looking into what's causing the inconsistent performance, and the main bottleneck comes back to the CPU.

It's running a bit hot, and honestly, the server itself is pretty lackluster for what we're asking it to do. Rather than keep working around its limitations, I'd like to get LC onto something more capable.

What we're running into

  • CPU limitations: The processor is the main performance bottleneck, and it's also running warmer than I'd like.
  • HDD storage: The site is running on traditional hard drives, not SSDs or NVMe storage.
  • Only 16GB of RAM: That doesn't give us much breathing room for LC's current needs and future additions.

This isn't just about making the server specs look better. The goal is to make everyday browsing feel more consistent, whether you're opening threads, posting replies, or moving around the site.

What donations will help fund

I'm raising funds to move LewdCorner onto a better server with a more capable CPU, SSD or NVMe storage, and more RAM.

I've been putting a lot of work into the site, but improvements to the theme and features can only go so far when the hardware underneath is holding things back. Getting that foundation sorted is the next step.

Want to help with the upgrade?

Donate Toward LewdCorner's Server Upgrade

There's no pressure to donate, and nobody should put themselves out financially for this. If you enjoy LC and have something spare, any contribution toward the upgrade is appreciated.

Thank you to everyone who supports the site, whether that's through donations, posting, sharing content, or helping other members. It all matters.

Can't understand this thread
Here you said the server have 16Go of RAM
In early thread you said month ago you need money to go on a new server with 128GO of RAM
In the tread you said it was funded so why now claiming for a better hardware ?

Can you give us the architecture of lewdcorner.com ? how many servers ? what utility for each one ? what cost of them ?

Still willing to help with your financials. There seems to be a struggle when it comes to money. Perhaps you just need help with the mathematical side of things or finding areas where you are spending too much money and could cut back. Plus it might help people feel more willing to donate if they know the money is being handled and funneled out by someone that is only looking at the numbers.

Hmm, I've got an old blade server laying around collecting dust with some spare 10krpm drives in hotswap trays.
It's not new by any stretch of the imagination, nor does it sport any meaningful storage capacity - but it's a proper rack server.

I could boot it up and check its capabilities if it could be of use somehow?

This is getting kinda pathetic at this point, you clearly lying about everything at this point including your fake new identity, still the same owner as before! But I guess it's working for you!just need to find couple of idiots who will donate in your personal pocket again!

Well, don't know what to believe atm. But something obvious to notice: the problems, once again, started with this new theme/layout, that was definitely not needed and is causing issues in other areas as well. So maybe switch back to the old one for the time being, because this one is obviously to hardware hungry.

And honestly, running a web server on 16GB RAM? I know RAM is expensive and close to not affordable, but running this little for a web server, is basically asking for problems and issues. And if the CPU is of similar capabilities, then I have to ask, what we're even doing here.

Don't know, where you want to have the server located 'cause of the legal stuff and all, but I do know, there are capable servers out there, that have e.g. an AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 8700GE, 64GB DDR5 ECC and 2x 512GB NVMe for only 120€/month. For a bit more, around 180€/month, you can get a server with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265, 64GB DDR ECC and 2x 1TB NVMe. Sure, that are servers in Europe and used hardware and somewhere else, the prices might be higher, but still there affordable options.

I wanna say at this point the biggest thing is just routing protection. you should be able to self host a traditional server (or even old gaming pc with nvme) and outperform the specs you have here for a nominal 50 bucks a month. do a servicemesh on wireguard and have your choice of hosting provider for your public ip endpoints so takedowns never go to the actual server host location.

a server doesn't need ssd's or nvme for storage. especiallly a server that just runs a forum.
16gb on a server is an early 2000's era server, you can't be serious that this site has thus far been hosted on a server with that amount of ram.
if a cpu is running warm you need to cool it better. and besides a server cpu running hot isn't that big of a problem. as long as it doesn't exceed the danger treshold.

I think you forgot the price of ram in today's market especially server ram.

Need ssd's? No, but it's highly advised, ie best practices, at this point. Spinning disk is only useful for slow storage like backups, or for streaming data like video or downloads. Unless you're running a massive stack of spinners in parrallel like a 3par or IBM XIV, and even with those, the seek speed to start streaming data is sloooooow. Not useful for a forum site. [edit] ... *sigh* system engineering is all about the "well, its likely this, but COULD be that..." and the number of times its that 1 in a million thing... So, for the record, its possible, depending on the actual load on the cpu and what's really bottlenecking, that adding SSDs will make things worse on the cpu. Generally, that'd be cause the I/O requests were taking a long time to come back (as they will on a spinner) which allows the CPU to work on other threads while waiting. But if you speed up the I/O, then the CPU will have no "down time" to process other loads. So... yeah, faster storage could be worse, but its unlikely.

"Just runs a forum" curiously, do you know what the hardware specs to run a forum are? I do. Funny enough, 4G was pretty common for "just a forum" or web server would run with back then. Well, large site or enterprise level servers. Say like a Sun 420R, 4 cores, 4G. Dell pizza boxes with 2 cores and a gig of memory. UCS blades, 2 to 4 cores, upto... think it was 8G back then? Not like the multiple terrabytes they run now. Thing is though... ironically, most web servers are running 2-8 cores, maybe 16, with 4-16G of memory these days, just running as VMs carving up the big metal.
Warm can mean temp, but in the industry its a technical term-of-art for running at medium to heavy loads. Hot is running heavy to max cap and burning up is when the system starts becoming unresponsive becuase it has to much to do and not enough cycles to do it.

The specs quoted aren't unreasonable, the upgrades desired are reasonable or even industry best practices... IF its the truth. That of course, is a different conversation.

I would say if anything warm is pretty spot on since we saturate 44 Core CPU's on just database systems itself. I do my best to optimize for the amount of traffic we have specifically. We already run NVME in RAID 1.

By the pic its more like 25 cores at most actually.

New identity?

Basicly as said before by someone and this is the post he actually mentioned back in february 28th new server upgrade (funding) so yeah you wonder why ppl hesitate to donate cause it just doesnt add up... I remember back awhile ago you funded the server with your own creditcard and made a insane amount of debt and that probably has been going up due the lack of paying on-time which increased with the interest rates and you are actually asking for that instead of a server upgrade. And again a server doesnt need SSD's or NVMe's. If i was a server renting company and someone like you requested that i would laugh and say yeah sure that will be a extra $$... anyways gl with your personal debt hope it was a life lesson and you will slowly get your life back on track. All i can say dont give up and maybe get a secondary weekend job at it.

But I don't think it's a bad thing in itself that he wants donations for the site, nor do I mind the methods he uses for that.

hey it exists studies the say that such methods working in order to make money

methods are for example begging and evoking pity

The reason begging and evoking pity are so effective at driving donations comes down to deeply ingrained human evolutionary traits, social norms, and emotional triggers. When people witness another person’s suffering, their brains trigger an automatic response that drives them to help.

Anyone that has been here for a while can tell you the same things were said a year + ago the last time this site was "going through troubles".

If it was said a year ago, why are we saying again the same ?

There no logic in the demand of fund for server and the history of the previous post

That why I ask for a full inventory of servers and services own by the website, the usage of each and the cost of each too.

Some transparency is a must if the owner of lewdcorner wants to have money
