A hidden gem that many people have not played or heard is a game called 'Light of my life'. About a man and his two daughters. Quite a lot more realistic than most games. Bit of a slower burn, but deeper connection and emotions, and again realism.

Here's a few recommendations, focused mostly on lesser-known/indie stuff:
Horizon's Gate (
Brotato (
Boneraiser Minions (
Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons (): Another good game that doesn't require a lot of focus. Best played with others, plenty fun alone.
Disco Elysium (): RPG with a HEAVY focus on story/dialogue. Don't bother unless you enjoy reading, but if you do, know that what's there is outstanding. Among the best of its kind, but again, story-centric with no real "combat" of the traditional kind. Think they had some controversy regarding the developers being screwed over somehow but I haven't followed that story too closely.
Akane (): May look the same as Brotato/Boneraiser but much, much harder. (Mostly) one-hit-kill-and-be-killed, no room to fuck up, Cyberpunk setting, you're just one badass with a sword and a gun in a fight to the death.
Age of Wonders 4 (): Great 4X strategy game with a heavy emphasis on turn-based combat and crazy replay value. If making a race of undead frog-people that ride eagles and are led by a lightning dragon sounds fun to you, check it out.
Pillars of Eternity 2 (): CRPG with real-time-with-pause combat, my favorite of its kind. Story-focused, and while it certainly helps I don't think playing the first is necessary. Fantastic combat, great graphics, great story, sail around and level up your weapons, bind a few to your soul, including a talking sword (that you find in a death pit near a giant bug) before reuniting it with its owner, and after that maybe look for a ghost ship before fighting a couple gods, or maybe their avatars.

): Watch the trailer. If you don't vibe with it just skip this one, as it's easy for people to be turned off by the graphics, but the song sold me on first watch. Turn-based pixel graphics RPG, big world to explore via sailing, has a "jobs" based class system ala Final Fantasy Tactics and a lot of interactivity (think laying down a simple plank bridge, or using magic to "grow" a vine to climb). Great game that has a few dedicated modders that have added depth and breadth to it. A tip: bind the "Look" action to an extra mouse button or something easy to access, you should be using it a lot.Brotato (

): One of the better "Vampire Survivors/bullet-heaven" games out. Great if you just want to zone out or listen to some music/an audiobook/a podcast. It'll soon have an update to include co-op and some DLC, so that's nice.Boneraiser Minions (

Lessons in Love. At least half of that time is spent in confusion, but that's part of the game.
