Guys, lets keep this ON TOPIC. This is about TAGS used IN AVNs/Adult Games... NOT about real life situations, opinions, feelings or anything else of the like. Please do not bring your feeling on LGBTQ+ in real life population into this.

Alright, if this is apparently not a political discussion, let's go.
The assigned gender of a person is whatever is entered on their birth certificate. So we probably all have one. For most people, the assigned gender coincides with their gender identity, which is the gender they perceive themselves to be. Those people are cis. People for whom assigned gender and gender identity differ are trans. Legal recognition of ones gender identity is not required for a person to be trans, it is only required for them to have a decent quality of life.

It's been said before... We go by visual. We don't like getting into political talk. So we stick with what we see and give it the proper tags. Very few tags are based on story such as Multiple endings, NTR(Any kind), Sci-Fi, Fantasy, etc. We do not want too many tags and want to stick with organizing.

I mean, to also not bring politics or opinions into this and focus on the cold hard facts of how fucked up biological development can be, I just trust the multiple studies done on the brain structures of a trans person and how they physically are similar to the sex they are identifying as rather than the sex their bodies indicate they are, coupled with the reality that things like fetal absorption exist which causes a twin to absorb their other twin, regardless of the sex of the fetuses, and fully develop, resulting in singular people with organs that are of the opposite sex, which can include the brain, which is more who we are than our bodies are.
And to bring an opinion into this, this conversation is not part of the discussion on the tags, and shouldn't be happening here.

Futa- Futanari = Japanese word for "to be of" or "to have" both pertaining to characters in anime or manga having both penis and vagina. This is in fiction work
Transgender = Person whos birth gender does not align with how they feel their gender to be. Transsexual= person who undergoes surgery to align their gender to how they feel they should be. This is in Real Life, portrayed in games
Ive combined the -gender and -sexual into one for simplicity sake but both definitions will be in the tooltip

There is at least one game out there with the trans tag where it's a FTM (preop) potential LI for a male MC (WVM.)

Taking into account the principle of "Going by visuals" I can see both definitions being a good pick, but then I can't agree with their names.
There is also the situation MattShizzle mentions, in which case I start to doubt if aplaying the same principle you could argue the need of a third tag.

Thinking about it, the existence of trans men is a great reason for separating from the futa tag, because if you click on a game with the original futa/trans tag, you'd be expecting woman with dick, not guy with cunt.

Actually that one you have a choice. Shawna can be either a trans girl or a regular girl. There is no post op. There is also the other girl on the BB team that is a "trans guy" but still ends up with the mc with normal vaginal sex.

My vision of FUTA and TRANS as I think TAG should be
FUTA "Futanari" is a woman with the bilogical sex of a woman, with a vagina and penises or who has subsequently gained a penis and regardless of whether she has testicles, but who identifies as female.
TRANS “Transgender” Biological male who has undergone a gender transition to appear like a woman and behaves femininely, and identifies as a woman, Biological female who has undergone a gender transition to appear like a man and behaves femininely masculine and identify as a woman.
Just an explanation about sex, biology, gender, and Sexual Attraction:
Biological sex = is the sex defined by genetics, female or male, which is included in the birth record.
Gender = is the sex that the person identifies with. They can see themselves as Man, Woman and in rare cases they cannot identify with either.
Sexual attraction = the person can feel desire for a Man, a Woman, both “Bisexual” or not without being attracted to either “Asexual”
Example: João Biological sex = Woman; Gender= Male; Sexual Attraction = Male. Masculine appearance.
Maria Biological sex = Male; Gender=Female; Sexual Attraction = Male. Feminine appearance.
