it creates a market for the kind of people that want to see it
Like any other art form that appeals to specific tastes, we might say, but as you pointed out, they embellish that with the "monkey see, monkey do" argument that says if the kind of person who enjoys that product can do so without penalty, he or she is more likely to mimic it in reality. Life imitating art, so to speak. It's a slippery slope, but that won't stop zealots who would assume things about you and throw you into a wood chipper for watching certain kinds of cartoons and playing certain kinds of games. God forbid the product becomes popular, generating a wider market and infecting more monkeys.

The law here is under the opinion that it creates a market for the kind of people that want to see it, creating more interest.

and that would lead to more, actual abuse.

Yeah, thats the problem, some random people "think" something and then act on that... instead of funding more research about it...
There is research suggesting the actual opposite... there is also the fact, proven by studies, that after pornography became widely available the rate of sex crimes "decreased or essentially stayed stable", that is for "normal" porn of course, but it gives a hint I would say...

Tbf tho, I can't really speak about that part personally, I play smol games and like em, but in reality I am not even interested in 20 year olds, let alone younger... :ROFLMAO:

In Australia they make are very broad argument. that if it looks like a child, then it is a child. animated or real doesn't mater.
Doesn't that discriminate small and young looking men and women? Wouldn't this limit their freedom to choose a profession in adult entertainment?

Did you know that if you listen to hard rock you will become a satanist?
Did you know that if you play Dungeons & Dragons you will sacrifice babies to Satan?
Did you know that if you watch action movies you will become violent?
Did you know that if you play violent computer games you will go out and kill people?
Did you know that if you play smol games you will go out and rape people?

*sigh*

It's been disproven time and time again but it doesn't matter, everytime something new comes along that people are scared of they will have a moral panic attack and try and censor it.
It usually goes away in the end when people understand how dumb it is.
