Why not develop the two together... alternating releases (2-3 months apart) -- totally different stories that protect you (as creator) from writersblock.

That does seem to work well for some devs. It can make the wait longer between releases, obviously, but if it helps the games actually get completed, I'm all for it.
 
i find the post apocolyptic one more compelling but i think its because were all expecting a level of grittyness from it i think desert stalker is a good place to look for inspiration as well as for the medieval idea i think it could be compelling others were saying medieval is overdone but its knights and shitty combat thats overdone if the idea is to find out about the father focusing on alot of intrigue and politics could make it more compelling i played a game a while ago called long live the princess which had mind control but you had to find secrets to confront them with to destabalize their minds and it was a rewarding gameplay loop also id like to add i dont think knights should be forgone completely as they have their place in the setting its just too many mcs are the chosen one and things end up being a little to easy for them plotwise
