Every game should have transparent textbox option!

see im the opposite i hate not have a textbox it makes it impossible to read the text most of the time for me.
Some fancy fonts/colors indeed demand at least 50% opacity to be readable, but that's a design flaw imo.
Luckily you can hide the textbox if you want to enjoy an unobstructed view 🤤

i disable all text colours and weird font and manual put a textbox in i actually want to read whats shown lol if the text ever gets in the wasy hitting "h" does the job... any dev that doesn't include a text box is a troll, no textbox shouldn't be a thing ever not everyone has 20/20 vision

I don't want the textbox to be transparent, because way too many backgrounds make the text harder to read. Just move the textbox, or the sexiness, apart so that one doesn't block the other.
 
Played a pretty degenerate one earlier today where the text box covered the screen like this:

You couldn't move the box and if you wanted to hide it you had to click the settings button first and then there was a hide button that lasted until you clicked. The text box was transparent but still like 80% opaque. It also fully covered the porn going on :ROFLMAO:

Why, as an artist/creator, would you want big box covering a quarter of your art? (And often the most *interesting* quarter.)

Just use white text with black outline and you can still read it over any background.

Transparent box should be built in to Renpy, but until it is, every renpy creator should add the option.

Yeah they should be the standard in my opinion.
Solid textboxes make the games look really old and they cover up parts of the usually good art.

Another related issue is how some developers use the most annoying fonts and effects that they can find. Luckily that's not as common.

As long as it isn't a nonRenpy game that isn't obvious to what hotkey hides the box entirely.
 
Every game should have a text box opacity slider so everyone gets what they want. I'm personally a 70-80% opacity fella myself.

If you're a good artist/creator, you'd already know how, what, and where the dialogue box would cover. There are a lot of good games with good artists/developers out there that put 'spaces' for their art to compensate for the dialogue box; hell, I've even seen some even use the dialogue box to compliment the scene itself!

Dialogue boxes aside, what I really hate, and I believe everyone should as well, is the damn obnoxious devs that use their take on 'cute/creative fonts'! Like the MFs who use cursive fonts and shit for their character names and dialogue texts! I mean, the dialogue box transparency is indeed something a lot of artists/creators should consider, but fuck me, font styles are a guaranteed must! I don't want to see the ugly-ass curly cursive font that you found after searching "beautiful fonts" on Bing at 2 am in the morning! Just use the bloody default font or something similar! Don't make my eyes bleed!
 
I don't care. It's no problem to press H, if necessary.
 
That is why sometimes i prefer to play the port over the official android version.
 
I totally agree with this whole heartily. It's really sucks when I'm playing a game on the go on my phone and a third of the screen is practically blocked by these. Definitely one of the first things I look to adjust when I first play a new game.

Clear text boxes every time just make it an option and maybe do a slight shadow on the text for readability in some scenes.
 
hiding the text box is always the best. even a slightly clear text box can get in the way. an option to hide it is definitely needed in every game
