Abandoned AI HTML Dune: Breeding A Dynasty [v0.2.1] [lmno]

Images were generated with AI tools instead of a typical rendering application.
Considering the recent dev updates, is it safe to assume you're continuing the uncensored version?

Hello everyone,
sorry it's been a while but we're here to bring you some updates on the development of this game.

New Sprites
We've been working on recreating the AI versions of the characters in the Daz3D engine and we've just finished the sprites for all characters that appear in Chapter One, so here they are!

You must be registered to see attachments

Writing Progress
Some scenes have been written, although not too much as of yet. We plan to increase the pace of this shortly. Currently, dialogue for some existing characters has been updated and first draft dialogue for new characters have been written.
Added characters: The smuggler, the Emperor, the Baron

Spice Minigame Progress
The harvesting mechanic is already finished, and it works. We will need to playtest it further to tweak the numbers to ensure proper playability. But the code for the core mechanic is done and finished, and ready to start testing. All the graphic assets for this are already done, too. So all that's left really for this part of the update is testing it to make sure the risks and gains are balanced. The mechanics for paying your tithe to the Emperor are already finished as well, as are the game over conditions in case you miss your tithe. Finally, we've implemented an option for the player to send more spice than required to the Emperor, to get on his good side.

Holo-Calls
We've implemented a mechanic for making holo-calls to characters that are not on Arrakis. This will allow the player to go to the comms room and call the Emperor or Baron Harkonnen, for example.

Regarding Support
At this time, we aren't taking any money for this project and we don't plan to in the near future. If you want to show your support for this game, please leave a review, like to the OP, and add us to your signature! We appreciate you all very much!

Note for LewdCorner
We are more active on the F95 thread so contacting us/providing feedback will be seen faster than doing that here (not that we don't appreciate the feedback you give us here!).

As we move to Daz, we will also be unifying the two versions into one single version (don't worry smolls will be kept in the game). We will let you all know more as we get closer the release of the next update.

Thanks - DBaD Team

Yes it is, development has slowed due to issues with our current writer not having much free time. If anyone wishes to help the project as a writer, please feel free the message me.

Hello everyone,

Here are some updates on the development of this game.

More New Sprites

We've been continuing our work on recreating the AI versions of the characters. Here are some more characters.

On a side note, we decided to redesign the Reverend Mother we had already shown off in a previous devlog, here's the new version so let us know what you think.

Writers Needed

It has become kinda obvious by now that we have bitten off more than we can chew. As perhaps was to be expected, our vision for the game has expanded over time. We are now aiming for greater complexity and scope than when we started the project. Furthermore, the writing has turned out to be more difficult than expected. It is at this point the greatest bottleneck in our development. Therefore we have decided to distribute the workload of writing, whether it be to existing members of the team, or better yet to new members.

In other words, we are looking for guest writers.

You will have the opportunity to bring some of your own ideas into the game, by writing side-content in the form of scenes and dialogue. The main story will still be handled by our main writer. Otherwise you are free to express yourself within certain boundaries. You will receive guidance if necessary, and in some cases an outline of what certain parts need to contain. That being said, nothing is set in stone. We do welcome fresh perspectives and ideas. That also means that there's the possibility of you adding things that we haven't planned, as long as they fit into our overall vision.

The main challenge in accepting guest writers, is that we need to maintain cohesion within the story, and a unified style, so do expect that there will be some need for refinement and making changes.

If you’re interested in joining our team as a guest writer, even for small scenes or bits of dialogue, please reach out to one of our developers with a message. We’d love to hear from you and discuss how you can contribute to our game!

Filmbooks

We've been working on additional content that would be text-only for the game. You will now unlock access to filmbooks on certain quests, allowing you to read little side-stories set in the Dune-iverse. This type of content is also perfect for guest writers to come along and tell short stories that they wish to see in the game

Eh... I kinda like the old sprite better. I like the 'clothes' of the new sprite, bit she looks... more, I dunno, tired I guess? It's difficult to put into words, but her face seems 'less' to me, if that makes any sense.

If I had  any skill with decent writing I would totally contribute.

THis is so my jam. As the kind of girl who always reads every in-game story in the Elder Scrolls games, I can wholeheartedly say that I love reading supplementary, not-necessarily-plot-relevant in-game books. (Sometimes when I type, it sounds like sarcasm. THis is not sarcasm.)

Well since you asked, neither do it for me. But I prefer the one on the right: she looks a bit more harsh, which would be appropriate for the character.

The character model itself has not changed, so she has the same face on both only a change in expression.

Huh. SHe looks significantly different to me, and I guess different expressions can do that. If you hadn't told me that they were the same person, I would totally believe that they were two different women with similar builds. I guess that's just my weird perception, though, my brain gets stuck on things sometimes.

I honestly like the 2d versions magnitudes better. The Daz sprites just look janky to me and just awful. The 2d versions have a better flare and majesty to them. I guess a better way to put it is you can control exactly how you want to draw the 2d while with daz you can only get close enough and not even then. Please go back to 2d. IF it was daz from the start maybe but know with how good the 2d is...

Is this still in development as it's been almost no update since 2024?

Sorry but the younger girl looks really horrible now, weird face proportions like a cursed doll from a horror movie. The old woman is fine.

I prefer the old art but I don't hate the new art. Do the daz sprite make it easier or faster to create the art?

Unfortunately this title is officially dead. There was a post on the other site detailing how feature creep had bloated the game into something impossible to make and not all what was originally envisioned. So not on hold, but dead.
Hey everyone,

We’ve been putting this off for weeks because it hurts too much to say it out loud, but I think it’s time to be honest with you all: development on "Dune: Breeding A Dynasty" is officially abandoned.

This project started years ago as something we poured our heart and soul into. What was originally meant to be a tight, focused experience slowly ballooned out of control. Scope creep hit us hard, features kept getting added, ideas kept evolving, and before we knew it, the game we were building looked nothing like the one we set out to make. On top of that, progress with the writing team ground to almost zero. Deadlines slipped, communication faded, and despite everyone’s best intentions at the start, the core of what was supposed to make "DBaD" special, never came together the way any of us hoped.

I know a lot of you have been patiently waiting, checking in, leaving kind messages, and rooting for this game. Your support has genuinely meant the world to us, and it makes this decision even harder. I’m truly sorry to let you down after all this time.

Here are a few previews of some scene renders we worked on during that image rework. These were meant to be key moments in chapter one and some gameplay additions for chapter 2 part 2... but they'll never see the light of day now.

We aren't disappearing, I’ll still be around the community, and perhaps work on something new in the future. For now, though, I have to accept that "DBaD" isn’t going to happen.

Thank you all for believing in it while it lasted. We're gutted, but also grateful for every bit of encouragement you gave along the way.

Take care,

lmno & Finuee

Thanks for that info shame but can't say I'm surprised by that news given lack of updates.

it's a shame, I was actually looking forward to see how this one would progress. Not really a Dune fan but I'm intrigued by the setting and what would come of it
