Not to overly generalize, but dog girls just look goofy. Cat girls look sexy. Cats are usually seen as elegant, powerful and mysterious. They are nature's natural born killers. But graceful enough so that fashion models do a "cat walk". Dogs are usually wild, spastic and needy and will lick you with unending excitement.

And cats are probably more popular in Japan because they are very clean and low maintenance. Average Japanese are overworked and don't have the time to walk a dog multiple times a day.

As for higher prevalence as a sexual kink? I'd say the more socially isolated/repressed people become, the more extreme the kinks. Like the Germans. And cats are a natural progression of that. Anyway, that's my guess.

Interesting. Dog-girls vs cat-girls is a loaded question: Why animal-girls, at all?

I guess those characteristics are also described as "feline", in the US. Maybe the association is just more intense in Japanese culture?

Being licked with unending excitement sounds pretty good to me. Maybe there's a cultural preference for aloofness in Japan?

It's so strange to me that it's even a continuum on which to be extreme. Like, why not girl-book hybrids. Or girl-hybrid-car hybrids. Oh god... I just realized I could probably find hentai for both of those things, couldn't I.

I spent 5 yrs as a foundation inspector in an area with mostly crawl spaces (no basements here. about 20% slabs.)

Cats are THE most disgusting animals. Feral cats are the nastiest and dirtiest.

Dogs, racoons, rats, possums, whatever other mammal you want, none are as foul as cats. The hair and the stink and the shit is the worst of ANY other mammal. Racoons, for example are so clean. They will pile their food in one corner of a crawl space and shit in another. Cats eat in their shit. A crawl space with racoons was actually nice, as they literally clean-up around themselves. (you dont want any animals living in your crawl space. dont read this wrong!)

Cats, per se, may be clean... but they do it at the expense of their environment.

Even the cleanest "cat person" has that smell in thier house.

Cats. They're cleaner, they don't demand attention 24/7, they're mostly independent, and yet they can be very loving.

Both, but I've never owned any.
I used to like dogs mostly, but then I started to see all the funny videos/pictures of cats everywhere.

The internet would be a much more boring place without them.

Though both steal your bed and wake you up every night and morning for attention or food.

Cats are a better fit for people who don't have much time to dedicate to pets, but dogs are more likely to provide emotional support

Big reason for cats is I HATE loud noise and stink. Dogs' breath stink and often so does their body. Cats are clean. Most cat sounds are melodic, while barking is extremely annoying - like a kid bangling a ladle on a pan. And there's nothing worse than a wet dog..
