Does this remind anyone else of the old internet?

I can't remember the last time I felt part of a community all trying to achieve a goal like this. As crazy as it is, I haven't been on a forum where everyone is talking positively in a long while. Most of my online interaction now sadly consists of conflict on Reddit. When and what online community was the last that you felt like this?
god reddit really is so conflict based its weird. since leaving, after the appocalypses i only visited a few time a a month and people are so hostile to each other even in just like normie ass game threads and shit.
that said i play a few of mmos so the feeling if ‘we are doing some
shit’ isnt totally gone for me, also helldivers 2 has been like that on steroids lol

There was a funny thing from a youtuber a while back: Even if you only have 99.99% non-assholes in your audience, if you have a million people following you, that's still a lot of assholes.

True for websites and forums too.
the effect of scale is something the human brain probably didn't evolve for like we probably will never over come that inability through natural means, also why the block button is so important, you don't have to interact with assholes and the less you engage them the less other people get drawn into dumb shit lol

I haven't spent this much time online since I first discovered that Windows95 was actually better than its Microsoft predecessors (am I really that old?!). It was the first time that I had a pc that didn't crash every 5 minutes, or blue-screened whenever I tried to go online :ROFLMAO:
Windows 95 eh, I still remember working on programs in Windows 3.1. Hell, I was programming games on an old Amstrad CPC464 and Spectrum ZX, Yeah I'm showing my age now, but those were the good old days when the internet speeds were so slow that by the time any wannabe trolls had connected, they'd usually lost interest in actual trolling. I miss the old days sometimes, MSN Chatooms, ICQ, AOL. Brings back good memories.

Well discord/reddit has replaced the old forum model but it's not the same.

Even game developers and publishers ditched forums.

now tell people there was a time when youtube didn't exists and there wasn't even google search and look how their brain shuts down
i still have working Spectrum in my summer home, although all diskettes are long dead now

I am getting flashbacks to my first job out of school where I had to sit behind a desk and do like 1 hour work over the 7 hour day...I was active on so many forums...

Dial up on a modem and aol, no it doesn't remind me of that.
More affectionately known back in the day as AOHell, You know if any of us oldies are nostalgic there are YouTube videos of the dial-up noise so we can relive our youth :ROFLMAO:

I guess the activity grew a lot

The question is: Is ANY activity a good activity for a forum?

Maybe it is

I just hope this hassle ends up being good for the site, because i really like it

Activity for activity's sake is not ideal and when the goal has been reached a lot of the people who participated in said activity will shy back into the shadows where they were lurking before, that's generally how it goes, We can all live in hope (Well we can't it's simply not big enough and North Dakota wouldn't hold us all 😉 )

Can't really say this is different from anywhere else. Smaller communities both on the internet and IRL are usually calmer, but the more people join the more drama and toxicity they bring with them, and the harder it becomes to moderate.
