I think the issue is that its often used to half ass the incest genre. A good story with step siblings can be really fucking hot if its well written.

The writing is a whole other gripe. I click on the incest tags to enjoy the depravity, the step- prefix is like clicking on a corruption tag and finding a game about a young woman getting tricked into becoming a chaste and pious nun. It's catfishing is what it is.

I agree that it should be differentiated since even a good stepincest story has the tendency to deal a lot less with the taboo even if it is well written
Just like netorare and netori, its a world apart if the mc perspective is the dude that steals compared to an story about a mc that gets his love stolen/raped/humilliated/etc or even worse if mc turns into a cuck.

A "stepcest" tag would go a long way towards alleviating annoyance. If we have words for compartmentalizing our kinks, we should use 'em. Those words exist for a reason, even if only to traumatize someone who looks them up on Urban Dictionary.

Oh no, I'm not talking about how I can't appreciate a good story that supports why it's stepcest and not incest.

I'm talking about when they sell you the premise with incest and when you play you realize it's stepcest for no apparent reason.
If I specified this in my comment it wouldn't have come out so well.

Cheap Jokes aside, whatever premise you take as an author, actually run with it.

Steop-relations/Patchwork families offer different relationship dynamics to be explored, as a Step-parent is someone who usalyl came later into someones life, as well as step siblings having a very different dynamic then actual siblings, at lest for years.

Putting in the "extra steps" (not leting this one go) just to dodge a bullet is somewhat lazy I feel.

It's all about expectations. step and in-laws are a turn-off when I see something tagged incest but if it its not tagged I don't mind as that is not what I was expecting.

I mean yea kinda. its just really annoying to look at. its like saying "in minecraft" after every unsavory sentence you say somewhere just so you wont get in trouble. and it especially sucks when that game has no patch for it or just a general work around that lets you state the relationships yourself. Even if that game does let you do that though, i still find that it gets in the way. like with Life in Woodchester, the way a lot of sentences are structured, it still gets in the way at times depending on what you put, you can always edit it of course but yea..

I think the worst part is when the game is playing patreon friendly, but wants to appeal to incest the writing is absolute shit and doesn't make any sense. It's either all the way in that this is taboo and the relationships reflect that or it's not.

I have to say, yes I have to: I don't mind step-incest. I like without the step better of course.

But what I hate, is the landlady/roommate crap that's out there, were it's obvious it's an incest story but only because patreon they do that. So fine there is always a patch to undo it. But on the other side I had the incest patches for stories where it's not relevant. If Dev didn't think about that option before making it, it's not and never will be an incest story, even with a bad incest patch.
