Does playing Dark Games affect your personality in real life?

Yeah, when I played Minecraft, I’d always head out with a pickaxe to try and find a cave, stack up 99 blocks of stone, and stash them in my pocket—just the usual stuff everyone does.

Seriously, if someone is being influenced to the point where their personality and behavior are changing, they should consider seeking help; there is absolutely no shame in it. The sooner you do it, the more effective the treatment will be. And I want to stress again: there is nothing to be ashamed of. I underwent treatment for generalized anxiety with a psychiatrist, and it was the best thing I ever did. It changed my life.

I think it is up to the "user". Everything we do affects us. We are shaped by our experiences. Experiences open up new thoughts and ideas, and in the case of such extreme genres, yeah sure, it can facilitate desensitizing the subject to you, or normalize it. Anyone who says different are either lying to themselves or naïve.

I like playing those games because I like the feeling of power; both by being powerful and by taking away others power. I can be honest about that. But I also have a moral compass and know that it's all about how it makes me feel. In real life, I know that all those actions would also affect others feelings and futures; which for me makes all of the difference.

The same way couples are into CNC, BDSM and all other kinks; this is just another kink. The most important part is to be clear and honest about it to yourself, and I also think it is healthy if you have someone else to discuss it with. Obviously this is very difficult from a legal standpoint for many of these games, which is why I am so glad that this forum exists. 👍🏻

I don't think so. Personality is a small part innate, mostly shaped by your environment — but it's basically set by the time you become an adult. Once it's set, it's really hard to change. If games could actually affect your personality, it probably just means you were already into that kind of thing naturally, or your life experiences made you that way — you just hadn't realized it yet.

Nah, I can differentiate reality and fiction, along with enough long-term planning to understand the potential consequences that would follow.

It doesn't for me, just because I like rape hentai,it doesn't mean I think of it when in any context other than porn

Part of being a healthy person is seeing the difference between fantasy and reality. Some time you might need to remind yourself that it's not real.

If you have a hard time telling the difference or reminding yourself that you shouldn't do whats done in some stories then you should filter what you read/watch/play.

This 100%. As humans, we all have impulses, desires and instincts. Our social construct is what we constantly filter our decisions through when deciding how to act. That's important to be able to engage with society. Games are a great way of being able to turn off those filters because you know there's no consequences for it. The easy comparison is to car racing video games. Anytime anyone drives a car game, they're bouncing off other cars or the walls driving insanely fast because we know we can just hit reset. Nobody drives that way in the real world because we know there are consequences to it.
