Visual Novel, but I'll tolerate a sandbox if its not a grind or terrible to navigate.

VN most of the time, I like very few sandbox type games

Visual novel. I don't mind sandbox games when they are done well, but the majority of them are not.

I prefer Visual Novels over Sandbox :)

VN, but if Sandbox looks and playful nice, then why not?)

Visual Novel for sure. So glad Sandbox isn't the meta nowadays.
Wouldn't mind minor sandbox elements though. Like it's only there to watch repeatable scenes & go from Point A -> Point B to start the story/routes.
No Stat/Money grinds. Desert Stalker is a great example.

Depends how much grind there is in a sandbox, most get tedious after awhile

Are there any good sandbox games which are better or on par with the VNs?

Sandboxes are such a retarded idea. Just why would you pad your game with extra chores just for the sake of adding extra chores that no-one really wants to deal with?

Same with having interactable phones in these games. Why? Exactly where is the fun in having to navigate some fucking janky and fugly phone UI just to progress in a dialogue/plot?

Definetly a VN games, i honestly think it's harder to create a sandbox rather than a novel (although code VN in a long-term can be problematic)

Timestamps was decent without too much grinding. I didn't play the last update after saves broke, would have taken too long to redo. At least with VNs you can skip to the latest.

VN i dont usually look for a challange in those types of games.

As long as the Sandbox is not a grind fest I am fine with them. I just don't like it when they have no walkthrough or hint system but still require you to click on a certain place on a certain day of the week at a certain time period in order to see any new content. That's annoying as hell.

Agreed. Sandboxes can be good, but most of the ones I've played is a damn grindfest....

This. Having to exhaust every interaction with a character to proceed is a pain in the ass.
