Do You Like Sandbox Elements in Visual Novels?

Sandbox can be fun if done right, but grind sandbox is like satans bollocks, should be avoided at all cost!

Mostly they're just

If a part of playing a game is called 'grinding', that part should be removed. This is for games in general, not just porn games.

Most sandbox games could easily just be a vn. Sandbox games that actually has some gameplay to them I can tolerate, but usually its just unnecessary slop to make the game artificially longer.

It is okay as long as it has cheats so I can use them when I get bored with the grind.

Not a big fan. Can get tedious at time which can be mood killer to keep playing.

I don't play AVN for complex gameplay that's why I have a steam account for, so when I see a sandbox feature on a AVN I hesitate to play.

I always assumed it was to make it seem like one had to put effort in.

Even the worst sandbox is still much better then kinetic crap. If i want to read a picture book i read one. Games are about choices.

Like everything, there are exceptions, but I file Sandbox AVN right alongside Single Choice Story-AVNs:
Yes, it's "supposed" to add engagement. For me, it adds irritation.

I can play RPGs, like DnD, Elder Scrolls, etc... but I like the open door / kill monster / get treasure, etc... i.e. I like the gameplay.

Most Sandbox AVNs are "Give 1 Flower to Love Interest." x100, and she'll kiss you. NOW, click something ELSE x100 for the next step.
Unlike RPGs, there's no joy in the sandbox journey in AVNs for me.

Some sandboxes are becoming very popular. An example is Summertime Saga, which, yes, is a real sandbox if you play it without cheats. I will also mention such a popular thing as Man of the House.
Of those that are in various stages of development, we can mention Straitened Times, Bright Past, Amnesia, Love and Sex Second Base.
But there are also some very unsuccessful projects that I don't recommend even touching - Sun City, Happy Summer, Ring of Lust. Alas, no one is immune to the developer's crooked hands. As an example - in Ring of Lust you are always under the threat of global softlock due to mistakes made by the developer at the game code level.

I enjoyed the sandbox (not sure if it's really a sandbox or minigames) in Being a Dik.
I'm not into it when devs add sandbox for farming or grinding elements. Generally, if a game has a sandbox tag, I don't even play it.

Yes, if it makes sense and gives the option to avoid stuff. But if everything is forced and depends on the others it is pretty pointless to just decide where to start.

Most of the time they are unnecessary and create a pointless grind.

Sandbox is basically a surefire way for me to not try a VN the only exceptions i have ever made to this were love of magic and antiga (100% not how you spell this but i dont remember how to spell it)

Sandboxes as CYOA are fine.

Sandboxes used as grinders to pad run time? noooooooo.

I think simple sandboxes are fine, but if someone tries to make me plan the whole game week, and basically grind for everything then i am out (or i just download full save ofc).

Give me sandbox with choices and goals over just a narrowly written story with no changes or options that go in directions. I find the VNs boring for the most part
