Even harder than a female one for me would be a male who's an asshole, very religious, has opposite political views, etc. I don't like games where the MC treats women like garbage.

No just like enjoying any story I don't have to be like the MC to enjoy the story and character growth.

Now thats surprising. You always cry about slow pace and the assholes fuck on sight...

Nah, not a problem for me, really.

Depending on my mood I play a good or bad MC so I don't think about it

I like ones where the women aren't virginal types. Slow pace is like watching paint dry. Boring, like a "chick movie."

Can't stand playing a male protagonist that is genuinely evil, or a female protagonist that is too slutty. Other than that, it's all fine.
Exactly what I was going to say.
I don't care about the gender itself, but if they are just not like me at all in the way I would react, than the game isn't for me.

Lol, i prefer virgins anytime, in games and rl.
Maybe it would help if you stop watching the paint and read the text instead.

No as long as the protag isnt actively stupid.

The text is boring if it goes for long.

Have you ever seen a book? Text from the beginning to the end, mostly without pictures.

Yeah, but that doesn't work very well for porn games. The stories of the games aren't good enough to hold you without the sex. Some, like AWAM, are like the length of War and Peace, with lots of extremely boring internal dialogue, with NO sex. If I wanted to be reading, I'd read a book, not play one of these games.

Well, i dont play boring games. Either the story is good enough to keep me playing or i feed my recycle bin with it.
Thats also why i need protagonists i dont want to virtually kick in the face as soon as they say something. I hate assholes, why should i play one?

No, as I see the protagonist as how the author wants to portray the protagonist. I dont care about the morals, protagonist can be asshole as much as he/she want as long it goes well to the story.

I can't say I've ever played as a protagonist that aligns with myself. I only really see myself as a third-party observing someone else's actions, kind of like a brain parasite affecting one or more characters' actions and observing the result.

I find it difficult to play games with a female protagonist because of all the different guys sex scenes, i am a straight guy in RL. so yeah
and as well I find it difficult to play assholes or rapists i have stopped playing game that have you being abuser.

I can mostly accept different alignments and find some refreshing. But there are certain patterns that will make me drop the game.

Its usually not a big deal, now if there are no redeeming factors then I will drop it usually.

Question is a bit iffy, it appear that is more of a moral conduct than actually physical as in male x female.
Then, I believe is easy to understand why people DO NOT like to self insert as the female protag.
As per majority of visual novels, you can see the pattern of the ones where protagonist is a male have much better reception than a female protagonist.
While a female protagonist one has to implement a different approach, as in trying to distance the character from the player. Easterns accomplish this by having a picture of the character for you to see, instead of giving a first point of view. Karryn's Prison comes to mind. But that has to be melded within the gameplay. Next to impossible for renpy visual novels.
That is a constant in every single entertainment too. Men have more difficulties accepting a female point of view, meanwhile females are more acceptable of male point of view, as for example the Harry Potter franchise, mostly because females like the idea of a hero rescuing them and facing the evil for them
In short, if a developer wants more chances to succeed, just make the protagonist a guy, unless you have an ace on your sleeve.
