Do folks like to check out abandoned games?

I do, if they are well reviewed by users and story sounds like something id like..

I do. I even have some of them saved up. Games that started back in 2019 to 2020 that are now abandoned have pretty good writing compared to now. I play them time to time when theres nothing good updated
Same. Even though most won't be updated, they can be nice to get an idea of things to look for in non-abandoned games.

Maybe you can start a poll to see the numbers. I would say that almost everyone is checking out popular games or games with their fav tags / art style with enough content, even if they are abandoned.

The covid lockdown brought a lot of unlikely people into creating games in that time. A lot of free time with no idea how long it might last. There is no way to know for sure but, I'd bet some of those really good ones we lost was simply not being stuck at home or working from home anymore. Life kicked in again and people had to go back to living their real life.

Ill check some back in every once and while. Very few though. Sometimes they have a miraculous update and were pinky thought to be abandoned.

I almost always avoid them. I tend to think that's a guarantee of ending up frustrated.

Most of the time I skip them, but lately when I see some really good previews I have started considering that I would try them. I guess in the future I'll try one or two.

Most of the time I check them out accidentally then get upset when a good one isn't getting any more updates :(

I'm checking once a month-two only two games: The Humbling Experience, True Bond. I still eager to see news about continuation 🥺

If it has a great reputation, I might. But generally, no. Its just setting myself up for disappointment.

I tend to avoid them. I'm far too afraid of getting stuck at an exciting moment and getting frustrated, or finding myself in a game riddled with bugs.
I've experienced this all too often with "finished" games that aren't actually finished and just abandoned.

Only if I think the game was marked as abandoned by mistake, and the dev might actually get back to it at some point. But for the vast majority of games, I prefer to spare myself the pain of remembering the time that I put into it and the wasted potential.

Avoid. Usually ends up like this

Really depends on how big they are and how much content they have. A mini abandoned game will not entice me while a larger one will.

Of course, I do, if they are good games and have enough content. In some rare cases, the dev returns and finishes them, albeit in a hurry usually. But even without that remote possibility, at least I know what I am getting. Hard to be disappointed that way.

I think there is an almost identical thread that's not even a week old ⊙︿⊙

I check them out if they were abandoned late in development. Need at least 5-6 updates. I figure most games will be abandoned anyways so if it's got some content might as well try it out.

In general,,, it's a avoid for me. Also a delete and flag the dev if a game gets abandoned.
Will be hard to convince me to support a dev financially if they drop games or a game. Specially if it's their first one.

There are special cases where it's out of the devs control and i keep those games... As for a example Westy comes to mind.

The fun thing about abandoned games is that sometimes they're abandoned because they were too high-quality, and the dev couldn't keep up. Not too often, but you can miss out on some gems if you don't occasionally look at them.
