Do folks like to check out abandoned games?

I usually always just skip abandoned games no question. But seeing these replies now I think Ill give them a chance moving forward! Thank you everyone! :D might be missing out on some gems even if unfinished
you'll better. not even going about artistic value of the game, just the assets are usually interesting or high quality

Yeah, why not?
It's almsot like "completed" but worse - you just know there will be nothing more
Moreover there are some abandoned true gems there

Plenty of devs dream to big and create a game that is to expansive to ever finish. As a result I've gotten used to the games I play not being complete, and with how long some games can go without updates or significant new content, there isn't much practical difference between playing an "in progress" game and an abandoned game. As long as it got enough content for me to have fun with (didn't get dropped before fleshing out the sex scenes) I don't really care what version number it lists or if waiting for more content is useless. "Headmaster" is a great game, but with how long it takes for content to come out, I treat it like it's abandoned and enjoy playing until the end of available content anyways.

Some of the best games i've played on these platforms are the abandoned ones. I'd rather not but when it has hours of content it might as well be a complete short game. Another novel experience for the books

I'll give you a more detailed answer. For me, in the game and in VN, the plot comes first. The plot in the abandoned games is not complete. And why would I hang around starting games that will never be completed. There are unfinished works in literature, for example, the cycle "In Search of Lost Time" by Marcel Proust. But that's literature - and here 90% is amateur graphomania. So no, I don't touch such games and I don't want to touch them. Dust to dust.

- real answer is - graphics. I personally dont buy the usual "stayed for the plot" excuse. You yourself states that 90% of AVN is graphomania. Why would one demand/care for a finished story, if the story is from the get go ridiculous nonsense? If anything, it is in "real" literature where is criticism is applied at the fullest, as it is not created for cheap and quick thrills... at least not all of it.

It is appropriate to recall Sturgeon's Law: "Ninety percent of everything is crap." As for the pictures, it's easier to watch simple porn or look through some kinetic novel.
I've seen good stories, but they're so rare-you can count them on the fingers of one hand. Why I download these games - sometimes I just want to put aside, as an example, Emile Zola, and read some detective story/novel by Raymond Chandler or Dashiell Hammett.

- not really... thats the point of video games and individual perception. Vide games ( any video games, including kinetic VN's ) give you a degree of immersion. The story can be ridiculous, the writing can be atrocious, but a players/reader is getting immersed anyway. This is why people have such a strong reaction to cuckold/NTR - they are getting immersed, those girlies are their wifus and than some scum steals them from them and humiliates them. This is in general why "gamers" are reacting more strongly to wokie/awokie discourse than moviegoers or readers. Also... not all pictures are available as easily... you mentioned yourself in other posts... SSP and stuff... and no, lolicon would not suffice, as you yourself admitted to have aversion to japanese style drawing and all.

- id say, that even the best AVN's arent close to classic pulp in terms of story... genre dictates its own rules... and money dictate other half of those rules. You need to get that patreon money going, you know.

Depends a lot on the quality, but with the sheer amount of abandoned games you'll end up checking a few of them whether you want it or not.

Most of the time I'll check them out. However if it is a version like 0.1 I'll usually skip as most of the time those are introductory plot and didn't have time to get to the meat of things before development stopped.

Some amazing games have been abandoned unfortunately. Sometimes there is enough content but the creator just vanished. Other times it is abandoned in its early stages but what it offers is still so good that you yearn for more. Ignoring abandoned games can result in missing out on some hidden gems.

For sure, I am definitely more careful about them though. I do a lot more research to see if its worth the time spent. Some absolutely fantastic games have been unfortunately abandoned. For example, imagine if Radiant had faded into obscurity after it stopped getting updated.
