Do Animations improve a game?

It depends on how good the animation is. I have seen some games that have an animated scene or two that I feel are just there because I think the animator wanted to see if they could do it, which I applaud, Animation can be difficult when just starting out.

Good animations 100% improve the game. Bad animations 100% make the game worse.

Good animations improve game a lot.
Too bad it's either recourse consuming, so we often get lame/cheap animations or cranky ai animations.

I prefer a good game with only image. When games have animations in most of the time it's not really good but it's only my opinion.

Agree with the previous answer. Its not mandatory and badly executed one actually hurt the overall quality instead.

I find that a good animation is usually net neutral, it CAN be an improvement, but usually I have no opinion on it being there. That being said, as everyone else has already pointed out, if the animations are bad then the game is knocked down several pegs, sometimes to the point where I stop playing the game all together. I don't actively avoid games with animated scenes, but I do go into them skeptical out the gate.

If the game has other gameplay types exept from sex scenes, of course it improves the game.

It depends on the game, and the art. If it is good, lets go. In real porn games it is a must. But sometimes in grindy games, when you have to watch long bad animations over and over, it is clearly a no go.

For sfw, 100% yes
For NSFW, if they don't overdoing it, then it's yes for me

Yes. I work in blender and unity and shoddy or offset animations break my focus and my workflow lol, I can't think of anything but that as soon as I notice it so when I play other games it really stands out
If there's no animation it looks too lifeless and cold but it's still better than bad animations but everyone learns at their own place

I thought it would be the best aspect of the game - turns out it's more often a throwaway item for me. Good static art seems to hold its own.

pretty much they do for me but i like many games without animation but a good story either way animation is a plus

usually yes. otherwise you could just find images

A well narrated story with nice static renders does not need animations at all. Japanese eroges did not rely in animations to convey compelling sexual scenes. Animations are nice, but most people don't know how to make them and are now even resorting to AI to make them. Moreover, animations in themselves are useless without good narration and dialogue. Otherwise I'm not playing a visual novel, just getting a random GIF inserted mid-game.

tbh i disagree with most people in this thread, i think overall animations enhance the game even if they are bad; like atleast you can get a sense of motion with bad animations i think still images can sometimes feel a bit eerie

If done right and they don't crash my PC or cause massive lag then yes.

My guess is it takes to much time and resources that many dev's don't bother.

I'd even go so far to say that crude movement [where dev uses a couple repeating slides to simulate movement] is a noticable improvement over strictly static images.

I dig them but like them chopped up in sections not like super long multi minute videos (like in ! SweetAffection).

Seems to be the consensus on this thread but yeah good animations can definitely improve the experience, (I personally prefer it when you get a pov option). But bad animations can really detract from the experience.
