To me, that answer is simple: You're a virgin until you have sex, and using a dildo is just masturbation, not sex. But what's really being asked is if they've had their hymen torn. I would consider tribbing to be a loss of virginity, but the hymen is likely going to be unchanged after that. Meanwhile, a girl who rides a horse too roughly, or does the splits wrong, can tear her own hymen that way, but I'd say people are an idiot for thinking she's no longer a virgin for it.
