Can I limit notifications so that I get notified when someone
- reacts to my post in a thread
- quotes my post in a thread

But stop notifications when someone:
- replies to the thread

Yes. If you go to your account page and then go to Preferences at the bottom you can select "Use custom" next to Alerting preferences.

Just chose not to watch every thread you post in and watch threads manually. You'll still get notified when you're quoted and the like.
