Big fan of Tennant, fan of Eccleston and Smith, and to a very lesser extent Capaldi. I will not touch anything after Capaldi, and frankly I'm unhappy with the direction they went with casting for later incarnations. it doesn't help them at all that writing went to shit either. but the new ones to me just don't ""feel"" like what I associate The Doctor to feel like, and nothing will change that. No hate to either Whittaker or Gatwa, but I really don't think the role is for them.

I like doctor who but I stopped watching after Capaldi's 12th doctor.

Unpopular opinion: I was... until he became Superman.

I prefer pre-2005 Dr. Who despite every objective measurement that says the 2005+ series are better. Why? I HATE (in all stories, not just Dr. Who):
-Last of their race
-Last magic / technological item of that type
-Last confluence / timeline / chance to change X

If the only way to make something interesting is to make someone / something the "last of"... that's a sucky story for me.

So, back to Dr. Who: Oh did you like Ramona? Or any of the one-off Time Lords? Looking forward to any new characters that they can come up with? See what their culture is like? Nope. Suck it. You're stuck with Clark Kent from Kansas...

... Sorry, I mean The Doctor from Gallifrey. And that's it. And now that's all people know since 2005... so every fucking writer until the end of OUR time can no longer change that... because of people love for "the last of..."

Not that I passionately hate that part of the Superman trope....

... no wait... I do. I'll admit that makes me blind to the (likely many) good things from 2005 on. I haven't seen much of it, but I was actually told by friends to skip it and never come back to it a few years ago because this apparently happened:

"Gallifrey is back!... no wait... they're all dead again... sorry... But you'll still watch our show despite we're fucking teases right... right?"

NO

Tenant was great. Eccleston and Smith were alright. Capaldi might have been fine, but the writing never really gave him a chance. Saw no indication that things would get better so I stopped watching.

First I disliked Capaldi but he grew on me... The new doctor... I am still nog sure what to think.

Always was curious to see, but the old as hell seasons made me not do it.
What would I miss by starting from the modern ones?

She was actually really great as the doctor, sadly the writing was horrendous for all of her seasons.
I suffered through the last of Capaldi's season, it was really bad except for a couple of episodes, but I had hopes for her as the new doctor and so I endured. The first chapter was horrible, what little else I watched wasn't better and what I heard later was even worse. Said goodbye forever to a series I really liked.

The last time I watched it was on a tiny black and white TV set on PBS here in the states. 1971ish? I remember a carpet monster and everyone getting the plague. Floating roman statue heads. Freaked me out as a kid. I never tuned in again.

At least we have this.

Big fan. We also visited the 50th anniversary in London in 2013. Including a visit to the Dr Who Museum and various shops.

Personally, I don't think the last few Doctors were bad, but there was a lack of crazy ideas, good scripts and overarching plots.

Especially with Capaldi, who is a really good actor, I saw it most clearly. He was brilliant with Missy, but a lot of the scripts were tailored to a younger Doctor.

I really liked the current season, especially with the different resolutions and the finale in particular had a nice trash factor again

I just remember he was at some point living with his grand-daughter(maybe) and that I though she was way too old to be a high school student, most likely 30+yo :ROFLMAO:

I LOOOOOVE Doctor Who. Sadly I dropped the series mid-way through Capaldi's run (last episode I could remember of him was when they were stuck inside a space station or something and something is knocking at their door). My favorite is the 10th (David Tennant), obviously, but 11th (Matt Smith) grew on me, notably after Amy Pond stopped being a total simp for him. I absolutely love the rescue mission in A Good Man Goes to War and River Song's big reveal later in the episode. It's still one of my Top 3 favorite Doctor Who moments.

you did the right thing. I did the same and later powered through Capaldi's last season to see the new doctor.

Yeah I liked Capaldi's early season, the one with Clara, but I never really moved past how she seemingly became his "babysitter" or something in that, which really threw me off. I still pushed through after, around the time when Clara "died." Can't remember which came first, though, if Clara's death or the one scene I mentioned above with the knocking.

I liked the 2015 special, though, when River Song and the Doctor had their "final" date before she travels to The Library in the Silence in the Library episode.

yeah, the last season began with an obvious "this woman is totally not the daughter The doctor and River had" wink, wink.
And then everything burned in hell.

The one with the 15th Doctor? Wait.... Ruby?! Holy shit! I actually like her in the 2023 Christmas Special. Shiet. Looks like I gotta get back on the horse soon.

ha, nah, you wish. The new companion is presented in a way that make you think she is their daughter. But to subvert expectations she isn't. She is just a random black vegan lesbian. The only redeeming thing about this horrible season is that she dies in the end and is substituted by a black vegan lesbian AI in a mimetic polyalloy body and then she fucks off with her blond white vegan lesbian AI girlfriend(who killed the original so +1💗 to her), never to be seen again.

Also, there is a random scene where the pope appears, is scared by the fact that two women are eating burgers in a living room and runs away.

they were having tea, I was close enough. The pope is complaining about... something, doctor, house something?

Edit: someone translated it "“what is happening? who are you girls? How did i get in this house? I thought we’d be back in the Vatican! This is madness!- "Doctor! Why did you bring me here?”
