You get slightly different amounts of them for different activities around the site. For now, the 2.0 has fewer things it can be used to purchase, so I'd use it for M+. The old one can be used for Prestige ranks, so I would use it for that.

Technically alot of them have similar calories as sugar but food and drinks with sweeteners use a fraction of what would be used of sugar since they are that much sweeter

so unless anyone is making max interest they gotta jump through hoops.
you need 50,000 coins to get 500 coins interest
