I think your method should be enough, no need to punish yourself.But doesn’t only consuming things you like already include things outside your usual “bubble”? For example, a pop music fan might still end up liking a song or two from country music.
So when you say you don’t want to live in a tight bubble, do you mean you want to deliberately try things you might dislike, just for the sake of being outside it, even if you end up not enjoying them? Because when I say I’d only want to consume things I like, that already includes anything outside my usual preferences, as long as I end up enjoying it.
