I think it's less about just being japanese, but more about art not needing to cater to anyone. Many good traits in famous works came from the artists not giving a fuck and going with what they felt was the best like the EVA aesthetics coming from the author just thinking they were cool
In business, there are golden rules, one of which is, “If you try to appeal to everyone, you'll end up appealing to no one.” The key is not to try to please every audience, but to please the audience that will actually buy what you're offering.

In the entertainment industry, this is even more important, because your audience is what keeps you afloat—and the most important part of that audience is your loyal fans, who stick with you through thick and thin. If you keep your fans happy, they’ll work for you for free, creating content that can attract the attention of new audiences. But the moment you try to adapt your product to new audiences to hook them, turning your back on your fans, that’s when you’re screwing up, because you’re betting on a maybe without maintaining a solid foundation to stand the test of time.

I'm with you on that one ngl, I'm new here and just looking to get on my feet, hope this isn't the end

Yep, for example 3 channels tried the model of late night talkshows here after another one lost their own due to constraints they imposed on the host. 1st one made the most success and endures despiste the podcast format killing most of talkshows, 2nd one had some success but only reached a 1/4 of the first one due to constraints like religion. 3rd one was a disaster because the channel aways tries to appeal to everyone resulting in the blandest shit possible

Always... ALWAYS... Be clear about who your target audience is, and if someone demands something that goes against your target audience, ignore them. Especially when that person isn't even a consumer.

We can see this in a recent example: the latest Fable game, which had EVERYTHING that makes Fable, well, Fable, stripped away—all in the name of “modern audiences.”

Even in our community of degenerates, there are devs who’ve made this mistake. A few years back (I don’t even remember the game’s name), there was a dev making a harem game. A small group asked him to include NTR, he tried to please them, and… it all went to hell.

Man... If i were to add NTR to a harem game i'd just straight up go for swinging and such (or just straight up pick the boyfriend and girlfriend that way no one is excluded, tho there's way too few games where that happens). But back to theme, i'd say rather than a target audience, the work needs a concept, and to be loyal to it and it's originality

I've been trying to listen to more modern rock, I do love my 80s and 90s but figured it's been 20 years, time to expand(y).

I find it odd that there isn't a dedicated thread for role-playing or something similar. Maybe there is one, but it's buried somewhere. I've seen quite a few people into it, especially since there are people from ATF, and it seems like they really enjoyed it.

Because they are, period. I can tell you that a lot of the time it feels like 80% of people are damn NPCs.
I think the latest firmware update failed.
