I studied botany. Even the old professors couldn't agree on this. Someone always found a reason to contradict this or that. This is a long-standing joke. And I don't think anyone will ever solve it.
That once in the USA there were two trials going on at the same time in two places about whether a tomato was a vegetable. In one trial the result was a vegetable, in the other it was a fruit.
