It amazes me how you can find a reply to a comment within 10 secs of it being posted with the perfect meme in response, sometimes even edited and all

That is kind of a self filtering observation - kinda like getting all your "news" from people that already agree with you. It "looks" like people immediately respond but that is misleading -- some do because the response is handy other just skip it. But it looks like everyone is all over something when they really are not.
