Reading what's happened since I went to sleep, there are a lot of double posts.

Always does. The selection where I live isn't anything fancy - the only two brands my local liquor store can order are Lucid and Pernod.

They weren't able to get a bottle of Pernod which I prefer, so I've been enjoying the Lucid which is hardly "worse" by comparison but I find it has more of a licorice bite where Pernod has more of the herbal notes to it which I enjoy.

I've also been enjoying the experience sharing with the family (yes, I let my kids have a small taste within the safety and comfort of home). It's a wonderful time sitting with the fountain and watching the ice water swirl and change the color.

Shame they could't get your favourite in for you but glad you are still enjoying the other one.
Nothing wrong with letting the kids have a little bit in your own home, as far as I'm concerned. My parents used to let me have the odd bit of alcohol and it didnt do me any harm.

...Wait.... Is that why I'm a functioning alcoholic now?

Sorry to see your sleep wasn't uninterrupted tonight. I know the second sleep normally leaves you feeling worse but fingers crossed this time will be different and you'll have a great second sleep.
There certainly was a lot of evil double posters (Laz excluded), they obviously took advantage of Slum having his nap time.

Speaking to one of my doctors many moons ago, there were apparently studies that showed that many alcoholics (of which I am a former - kept in check by my wife) were driven to alcoholism because we get a rush from alcohol in ways most people don't. Most people get the lack of inhibitions and then get tired, etc. given that it's a depressant.

However, people with a genetic history of psychedelic usage either through personal use or from parents/grandparents have a genetic disposition to getting a rush from the use of alcohol similar to using those drugs. We experience it almost like a stimulant.

My grandmother used psychedelics heavily in her youth and both my father and I have struggled with alcoholism.

Take what I say with a grain of salt - I haven't bothered doing research into it - just relaying what I once heard speaking with one of my former doctors. If true, it tracks from my personal experience.

That said, it's possible that it's why you and I are the way we are, yes. I also worry my kids will carry the same demons on their shoulders at some point but I've accepted that I can't stop that if it happens. I can only do what my parents did, and ensure that they know where and with whom they are safe so that if they go to battle with this demon, they can fight and win like I did.

I still drink, but my family keeps me safe.

We did some family research and i found out that i come from a long line of alcoholics. The cause of death for the male line in the family are all alcohol related. I think genetics plays a big part here (and yes i might like alcohol a little bit too much too )
