I personally have never viewed sleaze as inherently negative. I think the negativity of a word really comes more from how the individual is meaning it rather than the word itself. Like, slut is usually viewed as a negative word, but then there's people who call themselves it with a positive connotation behind their meaning. Then there's words that have no inherently negative connotation but are used negatively, like socialist.

I suppose I can see that argument. Though I'd have to argue back that the majority of those use cases are people trying to embrace what's being used as an insult and turn it into a positive portion of their personality. To the majority, someone 'sleazy' would be corrupt or immoral in some way, I'd rather not even accept the term as a part of me thanks!
