Yup incredibly true but just goes to show how we are on the slow roll of things slowly getting "worse" depending on how you look at it the internet i grew up on feels like the wild west in comparison.
And Backreading done -- now back to rake-ing and vacuuming the carpet - If you have two Bernese mountain dogs you either rake the carpets before vacuuming or buy a new vacuum every 6 months.

4 pages consumed and loaded, absolute words to live by for almost any large breed of dog I would much rather rake the carpet than try to unclog or try to dissemble it.

shhhhh we do not talk about those days - I go back to the early days of IRC - in some ways those were the "glory" days In others -- not so much.
Everything changes -- ya just have to go with it - or give up

100% agree some things were better but now things are just so streamlined and optimized trying to navigate and use your computer there are so many slice of life features that the rose-colored glasses don't account for.
discord is pretty much modern day irc tho innit? i remember the awkward phase of transitioning out of irc with shit like msn, xfire and skype. all that bs just to go back to whats pretty much irc with a facelift
US plan for chips, especially high end ones is to ramp up domestic production, not invest in foreign production. So if you're waiting for investment into Taiwan it's probably not coming. Even before the current president there was massive funding for domestic chip facilities, with current one we're likely to see tariffs on foreign chips soon (if promises are kept).
It makes more sense to have domestic production regardless of it costs more because in the event of a blockade of Taiwan, no more chips would cripple our tech production, civilian and military.
Sorry if this post is a bit political, tried to go more for the facts/projected outcomes rather than politics.
Tired of the weekday 5 pages when I get back on, need the weekend 15-30 back

That is actually harder to imagine than the US national debt going down. Regulation and litigation "For the children" is the trajectory we are on. The wild west internet was before MySpace and FaceBook got all of the normies online. Once too many people get involved in anything it is sure to get worse. 20 years ago stuff that this site would never dream of allowing was available on legit websites that would openly and legally take your credit card number. Heck, 40 years ago *That Kind* of porn could be bought legally in some countries right over the counter. I predict that more people are going to figure out how to get on the dark web instead. That will be the last free zone on the internet until the majority of onion and hyphanet sites are LEA honey pots.
