I'd just like to point out I was being hyperbolic to make a point. You're correct, of cause, especially with Hungarys swings further to its Eastern bedfellows.
The other point, which ties in nicely to the point you made earlier, is that this Freedom of Speech often goes against
@Mr.Nobody's point - these are countries where the minorities are the ones unable to make their points, whilst the bigots are proudly able to chant their doctrine.
These words just suffer from Semantic Saturation/Semantic Overload. Woke originated in African American speech as a coloquial term meaning "Be awake - stay alert to injustice - don't let the world (read: government) pull the wool over your eyes" and its just had its meaning so saturated by media usage that it now serves as a catch-all for any divergence from traditional, even archaic, Western Conservatism. Terms get saturated and weaponised in order to continue "Othering" people. The word becomes so vague and meaningless that it can be applied to anyone and everyone - a tactic used for eons, but the most obvious examples in my head being that of Volksgemeinschaft in Nazi Germany, or to a more weaponised extent, that of Untermensch. Vaague, undefinable terms, that could mean whatever the elite wanted them to mean. So, in a sense, it really is Herd behaviour, but it's Herd behaviour amplified by propagandists and very vocal mouthpieces and advocates for right-wing ideologies.
As for Cancel Culture... Well. Nothing I can say that
@Sarya hasn't already said, far more eloquently - she is far better equipped than my armchair yapping.
Anyway, not me disagreeing with you DZ, just me going off on one of my tangents... Cue the Bingo Card,
@algeo!
Okay. just getting caught up and see we've had a warning regarding this discussion. Shutting up now!
You know me, I don't backread!
