I agree with the sentiment, but that's not the entire picture.
Consumers are equally at fault for even allowing this business model to work and thrive through sheer lazyness and convenience.
If more people actually supported artists through buying physical media and going to concerts and such, we would have and need streaming dervices a lot less.

Also, CEO clearly has some talent, just not one that is pleasant to admit, but it takes some talent and dedication making a business work this well over as long as it has.

It's a very good game when playing with 4 friends.
Problem is going solo in ranked. This is when the drug and nightmare starts

(they're updating the quickplay mode in january 2025. It may become a bit better to casually play even solo - but stay veeeeery far from ranked !)

yeah, i had played it years ago (not much, just a few games) and it was fun, but idk if it is for me nowadays, even when some friends asks me to download it feels like "come on bro, just one line of coke, I swear it won't hurt you"

i think i would have fun playing it, but knowing how i am like in competitive games, i would end up throwing my PC out the window xD

As for patreon and such, i'd say it's a different matter, and a better alternative, those are about actually making the art and being able to live off of it, instead of just being a launchpad to get distributed.

Well for the consumer is a clear opportunity. With a modest fee they got an immense catalog of music. The mistake was made by the record companies, IMHO. Piracy has always been there. When I was in high school for every fisical copy purchased at least 10 copies were made and exchanged that I know of. Yes, file sharing has multiplied that ratio, but musicians were still profiting from their art.

Also, CEO clearly has some talent, just not one that is pleasant to admit, but it takes some talent and dedication making a business work this well over as long as it has.

His talent consisted in realizing people are lazy and uneducated when it comes to listen to music. And I'm not only talking about people grown up listenting to low birtrate mp3 or even worse streaming. Just think of every vinyil taliban prclaming the superiority of that format over everything else.

From a consumer perspective, Many. The first that comes to mind are Qobuz and, as much as I loathe Apple, Apple music. If you really want to support indie artists, Bandcamp is the place to go.

As Gabe Newell said, Piracy is always a matter of price and convenience. iTunes almost killed the piracy of music due to the availability and cheapness of music. Most people don't want cds filled with music they don't like just for one song. Steam sales may not have stopped piracy, but they have slowed it.

Lets not forget how outrageous the pricing is to see concerts, live events. You say support the artist, I have no problem there. But I'm not paying $200 to see a concert for a band who stopped being relevant w0 years ago.

When you price goods constantly out of reach of the market, people will find other means.

The price is based on the demand, how big the artist is or was.
There's also the thing where less and less people go to concerts so prices rise up to keep the same profitability.

When you price goods constantly out of reach of the market, people will find other means.

The problem with this is, a good will always be considered out of reach to someone. That's what i meant by piracy always exists.
