I tried playing Monster Hunter Worlds and didn't like it at all.
But I always heard great things about it, so I'm sure it's just not for my taste.
However I've seen people saying that the new game is pretty different from the usual ones.

Some things are the same, some seem fairly different. The fighting aspect of the gameplay is basically an update from World with different movesets and a couple of significative improvements, but the general feeling is the same.
We can't be sure how the open world-ish aspect will affect the gameplay.

I remember spending more than an hour creating the cat companion, only for it to not show up on multiplayer (which is why I bought it on the first place).
It made me vary mad.

In Monstet Hunter Rise, World successor, you could take either the cat or the doggo with you in multiplayer.
I only played the beta in single player (had to learn the new moves) so I can't be 100% sure, but I suspect that the cats will be a feature in multi too.
