Bloody chores took forever and I've still got 10 pages to go of back reading!

Yep.

I have a similar sort of system on my Discord server, but with XP. When people reach a certain level, they get perks. I just don't publish the experience points to people so they don't focus on the actual money-making aspect of it, and instead just randomly obtain bonuses for no reason other than talking a lot and having no life.
