Greed, concurrence and a supposed invisible hand that doesn't exist are the least efficient way to manage a society. We live in a world where some companies are getting into debt to pay more dividends to parasitic shareholders, while wages stagnate or fall (which harms domestic consumption) and research, development and investment are sacrificed, it’s completely irrational. It's been decades that those ideas are applied almost everywhere in the world, the result is clear to see, the world is in ruin.

Yeah, here in Brazil many people demands that everything get privatized, even though most of the things that did got worse.
The whole point of public services is not be profitable, is to offer a good service to the population, and if do generates profit, use it to improve the service or transfer it no another public fund.
Private businesses is all about cutting corners to getting the most money possible out of it...
One of the biggest examples are the post offices. The main one is a public service, but there are some that are private.
The private ones don't even come close in coverage, because some areas, the more isolated ones, aren't profitable to them, while the public service is required to send it to any of our lands.

I'm glad you've been able to make peace with that. Feel you on wishing to have done more when younger, With me its languages it's supposed to be super easy as a kid, but I can't learn them now if my life depended on it.

I think it's a fact that children do learn things more easily, so languages/musics is indeed better to take classes as a kid.
Don't remember why, but I think there were studies about it.
