Exactly. It'd be like making a sandlot sequel where everyone is old out of shape.

Sorry. I don't partake in any form of violence. I'm just an innocent raccoon.

Hey, wait. Why did I get a comment removed for posting a picture of a meme that took the internet by storm (being a 'real' person and 'copyrighted' photo), but I don't get comments removed when they are gifs from TV shows that very definitely are copyrighted (like the Perry Cox one I just posted)?

(It was the 'Guy Tired After Sex' meme, for those wondering)

Had half the people in the thread reminding me yesterday :ROFLMAO:

It definitely won't have the 70's-80's magic, but there's been a recent resurgence of old stuff going back to their roots. Like Beetlejuice and Alien, Bladerunner and such. As long as it's not like Robocop or Bill & Ted Face the Music. I'll give the Total Recall reboot with Colin Farrel a pass, but with The Goonies I'll try to be cautiously optimistic, since there's so many of the original people involved.

Given the habitual dumbfuckery of habitually strip mining of iconic films, into perpetual ruin by Midwit locusts in HollyWeird, odds are not good. The only possible redeeming value of remakes, reboots, and xquels at this point, lies in creating wildly offensive dumpster fires, such as to cause fans to pine for and buy the originals. That only lasts until those fans are dead.

They failed to learn the rule that one does not kill the golden goose.

Don't give them ideas!
Unfortunately for me, what you're saying is totally true.

Take classic X-Men (re: sentinels) and Starship Troopers (re: bugs).

In both cases, at the beginning, you needed the entire team to take out one.
By the end, ONE member of the team could take out tons of enemies.

Not saying people shouldn't like that. I'm saying I don't.
I'm doing a lot of X-Men references but I just finished watching the classic animation and JUST starting '97.

One of the episodes was called something Jubilee's theater.
Her and the kids she was in charge of were stuck somewhere dangerous and, to prevent them from freaking out, she was telling them a make believe story.
The heroine (a version of her) was EASILY trouncing all bad guys in that story.
That's when I realized that heroes that win easily appeal to kids or people who miss the simplicity kids stories.

The point?
You're probably right about bad writers.
But it's also possible that the writers are actually targeting a younger audience and/or adults that miss younger tales.

I could be talking out of my ass... but I think younger stories is a possibility too. (But yeah... bad writers... also a culprit, I'm sure.)
Those that come to mind are popular. Chances are you've seen them. Being an old fuck, I forgot if there's more than the 3 I'll mention.

Sadly, most of them end with a "gut punch" because the movie LOOKS like a standard movie and the twist is that the villain wins.
That means that telling you the villain wins... ruins the movie... but they're so rare... it's unavoidable.

Top 3 for me
Bronze Medal = Seven.
Silver Medal = The Usual Suspects.
Gold Medal = Arlington Road. (my favourite movie of all time, despite its flaws)
I agree, sometimes the bad guy winning is awesome. There was a recent Nicholas Cage movie that did this well, and I loved it. I try to go into movies blind so I don't know tp expect. So I'm truly surprised when the bad guy wins

Gonna go get some grub...

Took a half hour to download the update from one of my favorite games / VNs - Installed it -- and was caught back up in literally three minutes. Tis a pet peeve

Hate when that happens tho. Usually wait for a bunch of my favs to release or a multiple version update.
