While I agree with most of what you wrote I feel I need to add a little to the above statement.

The cultures on both sides not just one need to adapt in order to properly integrate. For instance I constantly hear the argument in the UK that immigrant communities don't integrate, and I end up remembering that for many of those communities the initial immigrants who came across where welcomed by a culture that had signs on many businesses, guest houses/hotels etc that read something to the effect of No Dogs, No Blacks, No Irish. This is the culture you want them to integrate into? It's no surprise that they become insular and self contained because they feel threatened. Then the native community (for want of a better term) starts to view the newcomers with even greater suspicion and so they isolate even more and so on and so on. These things aren't helped by media organisations, politicians and other notable figures who then choose to stoke those tensions for their own ends. That initial hostility ripples out and has effects that are extremely difficult to 'fix' possibly taking even longer to move past than it took to cause the divide in the first place.

Yeah, I think there's something to this. If you kick them all to the ghettos and freeze them out of multiple rungs of society, then of course they're going to form highly insular enclaves and build a support system of their own. If you want people to integrate, make it easy for them to do so.

I think we disagree fundamentally on our outlook on this. You appear to be more on the optimistic/idealistic side of the scale where I slide more into the cynical/pessimistic side. Don't misunderstand me. I would like for the fullness of time to prove me wrong, I just don't think it will.

You might be the only person in my entire life to call me an optimist. But I'm not being optimistic, I'm just willing to let events from centuries ago be the past. Learn from history without stagnating in it. The atrocities native Americans endured don't justify trying to hide away their culture in the modern day. The more that knowledge is shared and written down the less likely it is to be lost.

That's the only potato flavor, but they've got some others like taco and BLT. The baked potato has potato slices, bacon, chives, butter, on a mixture of mozzarella and cheddar with a ranch sauce that they also use for their buffalo chicken pizza.

Cloud storage does a terrible job in keeping info. its much easier for information to be lost when a server goes down or some data is corrupted or people stop paying to keep the lights on. there's a scary % of how much of the old internet is gone. Books preserve better. Also there's an arguement that not every culture and religion should be preserved. some are good and some are just as hateful and wrong as the cultures destroying theirs. Plus if England is anything to go by importing cultures without having them adapt to your culture is a recipe for disaster. The old immigration system the US had allowed cultures to survive and even thrive (there are more 'Irish' Living in America than in Ireland for example) but allowed them to integrate themselves into American culture without losing their Identity. The only cultures that don't seem to integrate well are some sects of muslim theocratic areas. If you walk down the streets of london you might mistake yourself for having walked into Iran. Similar things happen to the people of those cultures in Myanmar, China, india, Sweden and they bring very little positive changes to the culture in the melding pot since they refuse to meld in. Instead we get situations where genocide happens and Sweeden goes from lowest rate of violent crime in the world to having hundreds of hand grenade related crimes each year. Even Japan is having issues with their immigration causing a MASSIVE increase in crime and they're mostly only bringing in college educated people from the US and EU.

I mentioned cloud storage and digital media more as a way to spread information rather than as some kind of secure lockbox to hide it in. I also don't think the US needs to worry about native Americans supplanting the national culture or forming grooming/rape cults like England, and Europe in general, has seen with muslim immigrants. But this whole conversation is getting way too tangential for something that started with ccxvidonaferens defending oral traditions and secrecy based on historical injustices. All I'm saying is that if people want to preserve their culture and history there's more effective ways than restricting access to the knowledge and relying on oral traditions.

What this started as is me talking about our hubris as a species in thinking that everything we create or record will survive forever due to current technology. For context here are my original remarks, which began the conversation you jumped in on part way through.

This makes me think about how a lot of people seem to think that these days because of advances in modern technology that we are leaving a complete record of our age that future generations will be able to learn from and it makes me wonder about generations past who probably thought the same thing. I mean think about all the things that were carved into stone tablets that haven't survived till the present day and what is more durable than stone. What was lost when the Library of Alexandria burnt down. Not to mention other disasters such as volcanoes, earthquakes or fires that could have destroyed works of art or literature. Or even the various wars and book burnings etc....

Sorry that was probably a little much for a saturday evening. I just wonder sometimes at our hubris as a species I guess and how much of what we see around us will actually survive to future generations.

You should know that missionaries are called that because they are on a mission. That mission is to convert others to their religion.
That's not as altruistic as you seem to think. The reason they wrote all that down was so it could be used to integrate a people into their religion.
They're not trying to preserve it, they would use it as a method of control.

This is... just wrong. Maybe the murder, slavery and destruction is uncommon nowadays, but it absolutely has been fair game for thousands of years.
After the Haiti earthquakes and disasters in 2010, many different missionaries went over to help rebuild. But, even then, a main focus was to re-establish churches or build new ones.

Right, because building churches and preaching your faith are totally on the same level of evil as slaughtering everyone who knows how to read/write, enslaving people, raping women, pillaging cultural artifacts, and lying about local customs so your grotesque abuse of power doesn't result in your execution after returning home.

These scenarios don't just arise due to the culture involved. Were there not several decades/centuries where teaching the Native language was illegal. There have been several instances around the world through history where indigenous peoples or cultures have been systematically suppressed and attempts made to eradicate anything that is not approved of by the authorities in charge. Think about the effects of all those Christian missionaries from the European Colonial expansion era. Same as all those forced relocations of communities from areas that were of significance to those cultures just because those forcing the movement felt they had more right to it because they had more power.

tbh, when i see good morning/evening and a what are u doing, or how u doing, etc, Its not that bad. I mean, theres a lot of parallel talk, so many replies with many replies in it. When a person try to read it, is sometimes hard to understand and blend in the conversation, so that simple good evening how what are you doing, gives the opportunity to engage. Sure there's the low efforts that only say good day, but for me is just a little downside to the benefit.
