Fair enough. Though sometimes the subtitles are completely wrong.

I remember watching "La Femme Nikita" in its original French with English speaking friends. And I was often going:
-That's not right.
-That's not what they said.
-No. No. No. It's close, but it changes the whole scene when you know they said... (been too long for specifics)

Then again, there's no guarantee that they wouldn't fuck it up just as much, or worse, with a translation.

There was a scene in "leverage" that I never understood until I saw it in English. The words were right in the translation, but the meaning, pronunciation and inflection behind them did not translate at all.
It was the worst possible literal translation they could do, almost as if the person reading the lines did not know what was going on in the scene.

My mother took me and my siblings to see it when it came out. She read the book so
she thought it would be ok. I still remember her frantically trying to cover 6 eyes with
two hands. i'm thinking i was around 10 years old

I'm trying to think where she would cover your eyes at. It wasn't a very violent movie. There was the one scene of nudity I believe. Been a few years since I last watched it. I haven't watched the "sequel" yet.
