Making a suggestion in the first place is arrogant at best.

That said.. the best place to start is a hospital.

See if what you're experiencing is the result of genetic issues, chemical imbalance, etc.

If it's not a chemical imbalance, then you can't be treated.

Unless it's fixing a chemical imbalance, medication can provide you with a distraction. A temporary reprieve, but nothing more than that.

In such a case, only you can make a difference. That was the case with my wife - nothing wrong genetically. Every issue was experienced.

A truly benevolent psychiatrist or psychologist can help but the chances of finding one of those with truly benevolent intentions is near zero in my experience.

If in such a situation you just hold on for as long as you can.

I'm going to re-iterate that last line..

On September 11th, when the Trade Towers were hit in the US, my kids were still pretty young but saw on TV the people in the towers jumping from the windows to commit suicide.

No one in their right mind could condemn a person for choosing between a quick death and a slow one. If flames were melting your flesh from behind, the faster death of jumping would seem like mercy.

Depression, no matter the cause, is much the same,

Those invisible flames lick at your flesh until you can't endure any longer.

..no one should ever be judged for such a choice, but I can say as living proof: Hope is not worthless.

There is always the opportunity for a brighter day and if I'd been seconds faster than my wife, I wouldn't be typing this message. I'd be a dead man on the sandy shore of a lake that virtually no one gives a single shit about but me and her.

Titles and tits don't make the Witcher. Witching is hard work, and considering Geralts deck of love cards he must constantly be hard. Ciri does not have those bragging rights.
He also has a deck of Gwent cards for a different kind of work

(Just to make it clear for anyone who reads this, this is just my experience and it may not be the same for others)
I usually don't talk about it, but at least on my case it was exactly like that, and the external help didn't manage to change it. Of course, it's something that doesn't just dissapear completely, and it sometimes comes back, but I've learned to "accept" (don't really know if that word would be the best for what I mean, but don't know a better way to explain it) some of those thoughts as part of my own, and when it does come back, it's never as bad as it was before.

(don't know if I explained me correctly because it's in English, but just wanted to add my own experience)

Given the audience here it could be either Animal Farm, 1984 or Down an Out in Paris and London. But I would bet -- actually just my choice - Animal Farm -- cause I like Pigs

Well, the pigs in animal farm are not very likeable, I would say. They are bad pigs.

If I remember well, at the end of the books, is Ciri who saves the world. So she can brag all she wants.

We seem to have missed one of my favorite Dr. Who characters -- and he is feeling depressed about it. Ho could we overlook Beep the Meep Almost a catgirl -- but not. Little guy went from adorable to evil. The story of The Meep is a tragic tale. Their planet basked in the light of a living sun, until one terrible day, the sun went mad. A psychedelic sun. Its radiation mutated all of Meepkind into cruel beasts who live for conquest. The Meep Army captured the Galactic Council, beheaded them and ate them. The Wrarth Warriors were summoned, and we fought across the stars a long and awful battle. Meepkind died rather than surrender, and now only this one survives. Their leader, the most "cruel and despicable of all.” Meep started in Dr. Who comics and predated Gremlins by 4 years.

Medication offers a temporary solution to a permanent problem.

I'm not a doctor and though I studied in college to potentially become a psychiatrist, I am not one.

This is the reality: Medication is not a cure. It is nothing more than a means to open the window of opportunity.

"Professional" help is more often a risk than a benefit. If the dead could speak I could prove this to you.

Don't trust some random person on a hotline with the legal ability to do whatever they want to "assist" you.

Don't trust anyone here either, myself included.
I don't want to trauma dump here, but it just triggered memories of my worst fucking time in life where I wasn't able to move an inch from my bed for almost 2 months. The bitch psychologist suggested that I should try meditation first. My recovery could have been so much more rapid if I got the pills. I have a feeling that if not for my love, who passed on a very lucrative deal to come to me and get me back on my feet I wouldn't even be able to recover in the first place.
Oh, that's a pity. I love what you do. But I understand. Why sometimes the AI only returns garbage? It is like it is alive and has bad intentions.

I made a mess in my bookmarks and mixed a lot of workflows. I need to delete everything and start from zero again, I think... I also need to come up with a filing structure not not repeat this mess again.

I agree -- We have come a long way from my childhood when the advice for such things amounted to "just rub some dirt on it -- you will be fine." In my experience drugs do help -- as long as you remember that drugs often just treat the symptoms and do nothing for the underlying condition.

I'm sorry for both of you. And the fact that professionals couldn't help you is disappointing and discouraging. I'm also glad that you managed to keep going on and find some kind of happiness -maybe it is the only happiness you can find, some imperfect fragile happiness, maybe is the only happiness there is. If science, psychology or psychiatry, can not help us, we are just moths flying in the dark, looking for a flame. Lets keep a little bit of hope.

That's truly a tragic character with a tragic destiny. Like a Greek tragedy.
