It's a video game board game that ruins friendships and broke lots of controllers back in the day. After everyone rolls the dice there is a minigames you play.

Sorry. the only games I know are BG3 and Civilization. I'm a bit of a hermit. Case in point.

3 go back and play BG2. I gave Civ VI , a pass,, played Old World instead, I'll see if VII brings me back.

Yeah. I was a huge Ultima fan while those were around. Did the Baldur's Gates and Neverwinter Nights. And all of the Civs. But only did those locally. Exept for a while when I setup a few PCs at the house together to do one of them. The only game I ever played online was a sci-fi game that was short lived. I'm still playing BG3, for yet another play-through. Perhaps one day I'll try another online game with friends, but I've never been good enough to want to try.

I'm still a single player gamer, when playing with others you don't have to be good as long as you have fun (just saying I suck).

I'd say the most important part is to be of a similar level, whether it's good or bad doesn't really matter. Things stop being fun when skill levels grow too far apart and the worse ones get stressed to live up to the better ones' expectations and the better ones get frustrated at the worse ones cause they're not ready to proceed.
Or if someone gets good you gotta make sure he's VERY patient and/or good at explaining.
But for simpler games none of that should matter at all and then just like lucid said just focus on having fun
