3D with no animation is generally a no go. 2d is fine static but 2D animated is the best

animations are always "More comfortable" ;)

I find having animations makes the game more enjoyable

I think it depends on the animation and style. Some games realy work whit animations and some games not.

I don't really care. The quality of the renders and the poses matter more to me. I know how to pose the characters, so when a dev doesn't put a lot of effort in this, kinda bothers me.

I would rather a game be animated, but there are exceptions that are just fine without them. What I hate more is when games are "animated," but it's some bs like the character model slightly moving as their portrait or something (usually seen in jp games)

As long as the animation is of a decent quality I prefer games that have it.

That's like asking the porn video or just the pics. I'm always going to want the animated.

In principle, animation is a plus, except when overcompressed renders are used to create animation loops - the compression artifacts are too noticeable.
But in general, the graphics for me personally is in third place after the quality of plot development and depth of character development. Sometimes even a game with very good graphics goes to the trash bin because of problems with the plot (Reunion is an example).

I prefer animations over still images.

Yeah Reunion is hard to play as i wanna kick the main protag in the kidneys rather than play.

Animation, clearly. But if you have enough static images to fake the animation it's still good enough. Like the old LOP games used to do.

Animations have my preference IF it are not two / three render animations...

2d animated is peak and if it's fully voiced even better.

idk how to explain it but 3d with animation looks weird to me.

One thing I notice being asked in almost every game thread is animations.
"Does this game have animations?" "Will it have animations?" "Are animations planned?", no matter if the game is 2D or 3D, animations are asked for quite often.

I was always kind of curious, but I never paid too much heed on why people are so interested in animations, until today.

I thought to myself "Wait, for real?", a few frames looped would be kind of ugly in my mind, at that point I would prefer the CGs to be static.
Then again, I have played quite a few Japanese titles and animations are really rare there (none of the titles I have played had animations), I have grown accustomed to static CGs so I see no special charm in animations, yet I seem to be the only one thinking this.

So solve this doubt of mine, why are animations so special to you? Why do you find 2-3 second looped animations so much better or even prefer a few frames animations over a static CG?

the animations add a bit more realism to the game. that is, if they actually load and are super laggy

You get to see more without having to click the mouse as much.

Games without any animations are boring.
