What was your high school status? What’s one pro and one con of that role? If you relate to more than one, pick the one that fits you best.

I played sports, so I mostly hung out with the jocks during school. But, when I wasn't in school, all my friends where gamers/nerds.

Best of both worlds. Are jocks and nerds fundamentally different, or are they actually more similar in some ways?

Most of the jocks were also gamers, they just didn't talk about it in public as much. They still went home and played Fallout or whatever was popular at the time. The nerds just had more niche hobbies. Both groups were pretty chill and never really had anything against each other.

I was a drifter, but actually I was friends with pretty much everyone. My immediate friends were the pot heads and the goth-lite kids [although I didn't and still do not smoke]. I was in art all 4 years and theater my final year. I played sports all 4 years [multiple the first 3 years], so I was friends with all the sports guys and would still go to games even after I stopped playing football. My grades were good. I was a library assistant for a year and would hang out there at least once a week after school was out. I got sent to the office frequently and even got ISS my junior year [because of one teacher in particular]. thankfully tho the principal was my neighbor and knew me pretty well, and actually believed me when I explained that the teacher straight up did not like me. I was a teachers pet [to the theater teacher]. Sat in the back of class to pass notes and make mischief when I could, satfront row for the few cases I struggled with a subject. Got voted 'Most Sarcastic' for the student yearbook, and apparantly it wasn't even close according the the year book group. Definitely played video games.

I didn't touch student council, and even tho I enjoyed art class and my art projects where good, my sketchbook doodles absolutely sucked. Wasn't much in to anime back then [or even now tbh] outside of whatever Toonami and Adult Swim would air. And band was for nerds.

You had a pretty colorful high school life. Do you ever miss it?

I was kinda a mix, my grades were too good to be called a slacker but I was a complete delinquent and gamer lmao, friend group was super small/tight ( just like I like 'em ;) ). I got in trouble a lot but also got away with a lot of shit because my grades weren't terrible, compared to some of my compatriots. Highlights included fuckin in the bathroom right after state testing and cherry bombing a toilet that blew up the pipes. Don't read into both of these being bathroom related

There are few setups in life that can match the sheer breadth of social diversity mixed with both free time and things to do as high school and college. I miss the people and all the things we had the opportunity to do, which was a by product of high school [and college], but I don't miss the high school life itself, no.

Honestly, I kinda think that's why streaming has become so popular along with the rise of parasocial relationships. I think more people are looking for those close knit social circles that they had in high school without realizing it.

I do miss being relatively in shape tho :ROFLMAO:

Went to high school in the 80s... which was pretty much the heyday of bullying. The student body was like 97% white and most of them were ignorant right-wing douchenozzles. I was also white but not a jock, preppie or cowboy and thus would have been invisible at best, if not for an enemy, who had the right connections to make sure I was a pariah. That was for the first 2 1/2 years. Moved to another district in a nearby town for the last 1 1/2 years and was merely invisible there. It was much better.

I went all through school being invisible 🫥

I had friends, but no real impact anywhere

No one really missed me 😔

Never talked to my crush till after graduation and 5 years when it was too late

There's no option for "universally hated". Not a "bully" but in a "solely motivated by spite" kind of person because I hated virtually every person in my class. Some justified, some not but if I am forced to be around you 7 hours a day, 5 days a week, I will actively pray for your downfall.

I've matured since then but I definitely could've been nicer especially since I would come to understand that we're all in this together.

This poll needs a few more options/explanations for those of us who were not subjugated to the US-American style of education. I.e. I wouldn't know what ages "High School" encompasses. What about schools/systems where these separations are – maybe even intentionally – selected against?

I’d probably be the quiet, studious type in high school, I stayed focused and got things done so i can go play steam games like cs or tf2 in my free time and the con? honestly i just don't go out as much.

I'd say loner is closest to how I feel looking back. I made a few friends but it was hard for me to do because I was a shy, awkward weirdo.

Looked at this thread earlier and couldn't put words to it, but what you said is pretty spot on. I like to think the loner part is a side effect of being weird and awkward because it's so hard to make friends. My best friend in high school was a popular outgoing person who was friends with me because we played MMOs and games. It's easy to make friends with outgoing people.

Always been an A student.

cons: no girls, high expectations from everyone, autism maybe

pros: cougar teachers

Gentlemen, I end my statement
